We are excited to share that West Central Indiana Amateur Radio has been awarded a $5,825 grant from Amateur Radio Digital Communications - ARDC!

This grant will help us continue improving and strengthening our linked repeater system and supporting infrastructure across West Central Indiana and beyond. Funding from this grant will go toward upgraded networking equipment and redundancy improvements to help increase the reliability of our system.

These upgrades will better support amateur radio operators, public service events, emergency communications, Skywarn operations, and the communities we serve.

We would like to sincerely thank ARDC for supporting our mission and believing in the work we are doing. We also want to give a special thank you to Benton County Emergency Management Agency - Indiana and the Tippecanoe Amateur Radio Association for writing letters of support for this grant.

We are also grateful for the many organizations and groups we have had the opportunity to work with, including W9SMJ Amateur Radio, WB9ARC Amateur Radio, W9AMT Amateur Radio, Porter County Amateur Radio Club/District 1 Skywarn, W9ARP Amateur Radio, Tippecanoe County ARES, and many more.

The continued support, cooperation, and encouragement from the amateur radio and emergency communications community means a great deal to us. Working together not only strengthens our communications capabilities, but also helps promote and grow the amateur radio hobby for current and future operators.

There is still a lot of work ahead, but this is a big step forward for our organization, our linked repeater system, and the communities we serve.

Thank you for your continued support!

With tonight's severe weather risk, here are some repeater updates:

Benton County is part of the NWS Chicago coverage area. When Indiana District 1 Skywarn starts a Skywarn net, the 444.825 Repeater in Fowler will break from the WC9IN network and connect to the N9IAA Repeater in Valparaiso.

For Tippecanoe County, the 444.725 Repeater in West Lafayette will break from the WC9IN network and connect to the WI9RES 147.135 Repeater when Tippecanoe County ARES / W9TCA starts a local Skywarn Net.

When Central Indiana Skywarn starts their regional net, the W9SMJ Amateur Radio Repeaters 147.045 Repeater in Frankfort will break from the WC9IN network and connect to Indianapolis.

Be weather aware today and stay safe out there!

πŸ“‘ Indiana District 4 ARES Net Tonight – 8:30 PM Eastern

Join us tonight on the West Central Indiana Amateur Radio linked repeater system for the Indiana District 4 ARES Net. We always enjoy hearing check-ins from across the district and beyond.

We especially encourage operators from all nine counties in District 4 to help represent their county on the net. Whether you're an ARES volunteer, EMA or RACES representative, a newly licensed operator, or simply someone who enjoys getting on the air, we encourage everyone to check in.

Can we get all nine District 4 counties represented tonight? Help your county answer the call!

πŸ“» Net begins at 8:30 PM Eastern. We look forward to hearing you on the air!

As of 7 PM, all the repeaters are now back to normal operation. Power just came back on at the Fowler tower.

Friday PM Update: Fiber link is back up in West Lafayette

Friday AM Update: Attica and Frankfort are back to normal operation. Fowler is still on battery backup and running reduced power with no ETR. Our fiber Internet is still down at West Lafayette but crews have been working throughout the night to make repairs. Everything else should be working as normal.

Hopefully everyone faired well after that storm system rolled through.

Post storm update:

Attica, Fowler, Frankfort, and West Lafayette are currently standalone.

These sites are running on backup power and we also lost our primary fiber at the West Lafayette tower, currently on redundant backup.

We will continue to keep an eye on the system throughout the night.
