The Town of Fountain Hills invites the community to gather for the September 11 Remembrance Ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Together, we will honor the 2,977 lives lost, recognize the extraordinary courage and sacrifice shown in response to the attacks, and reflect on a day that forever changed our nation.

The ceremony will take place on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the amphitheater at Fountain Park. Centered around a replica display of the World Trade Center Twin Towers, the program will feature a Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, a Timeline of Remembrance, a traditional fire service Final Alarm, and a White Rose Tribute offering attendees a personal act of remembrance.

Renovations to Fountain Park began Monday, Aug. 24, with crews excavating turf around the “great lawn.”

The turf reduction, grade, drainage work and event usage improvement project is part of Town of Fountain Hills, Arizona budgeted capital improvement program.

The Birth of an Icon
July 23, 1970
Before there was a world-famous fountain... there was simply a desert wash and an ambitious vision. This remarkable aerial photograph, taken on July 23, 1970, captures the construction of what would become the heart of Fountain Hills. You can already see the outline of the future lake taking shape as crews moved thousands of cubic yards of earth to create one of Arizona's most recognizable landmarks. In just a few months, this barren construction site would be transformed into the centerpiece of an entirely new community. McCulloch Properties, with the vision of Robert P. McCulloch, master planner C.V. Wood Jr., and marketing visionary Lorne Pratt, understood that creating a successful master-planned community required more than homes and streets. It needed an identity. Lorne Pratt often spoke about building "the tallest fountain in the world, right in the middle of the desert." Many thought the idea was impossible. But on December 15, 1970, the fountain made its spectacular debut, launching water nearly 560 feet into the Arizona sky and instantly putting Fountain Hills on the national map. The event drew national television crews, newspapers, and visitors from around the country. Since 1970, the MCO name has been woven into the story of Fountain Hills. Today, MCO Realty proudly carries that legacy forward through community investment, local expertise, and preserving the history that built our hometown.
