Northeast Barbecue Society

Northeast Barbecue Society The Northeast Barbecue Society promotes the traditions, lifestyle, and skills associated with barbecuing, slow smoking, cold smoking and grilling.

The Northeast Barbecue Society (NEBS) was founded to promote the traditions, lifestyle, and skills associated with barbecuing, slow smoking, cold smoking and grilling. NEBS offers classes related to barbecuing and outdoor cooking, performs cooking demos, and promote barbecue and barbecue traditions through publications, contests, and social gatherings. We help to connect barbecue contest organizer

s and competitors throughout the region, and support them by defining fair and impartial rules for running barbecue and outdoor cooking competitions. NEBS is supported primarily through membership dues and donations to the organization. We are an all volunteer organization with hundreds of members throughout the northeastern United States. We are also a tax exempt 501(c)3 public charity. Members receive a monthly printed newsletter The National Barbecue News, in which we publish competition information, tips on cooking, book reviews, and features about “where to find it”, whether it’s BBQ joints, equipment, that “just-right-secret-ingredient,” or notices on upcoming events. In addition we periodically publish barbecue information for the general public on our website and social media channels. NEBS membership is not contingent on age, race, religion, color, gender, national origin or sexual orientation.

Let’s Fuel the Magic! 🍖🔥
The Northeast Barbecue Society is proud to support the incredible volunteers behind this year’s Make-A-Wish New Hampshire “Rafting for Wishes” event! These volunteers work tirelessly for 24 hours straight to grant life-changing wishes, and we are stepping up to show them our appreciation with a legendary thank-you dinner.
We’ve got a busy weekend planned, and we need the NEBS community to help us knock it out of the park:
Friday, July 17th: We’ll be firing up the pits and cooking offsite in Hollis, NH.
Saturday, July 18th: We head to Hesky Park on Meredith Bay for the big event!
We are looking for:
💪 People Power: We need hands on deck for everything! From cooking in Hollis to event setup, heavy lifting, site breakdown, and energetic folks to help promote NEBS at the park.
🍎 Donations: Whether it’s food supplies, equipment, or cash to help cover the costs, every bit helps us feed these heroes.
Want to join the crew?
Sign up here to claim your spot, lend a hand in Hollis or Meredith, or contribute: https://forms.gle/NmPTtxKqsuT23L3w5
Let’s fire up the pits, set the stage, and show the Rafting for Wishes team how much the New England BBQ community appreciates them.

We are incredibly proud to share that NEBS member Laura Whiteside of Baller BBQ was recently featured in the Portland Press Herald! 📰✨

🎯 CALLING ALL NEBS TEAMS! 🎯
Remember when you were first starting out, staring at your smoker and wondering how to get that perfect bite-through rib? It’s time to pay it forward!
We’re hosting a Backyard BBQ Cooking Class on Saturday, July 11th at Trombly Gardens in Milford, NH, and we need experienced teams to come out and mentor the next generation of pitmasters.
Students will be tackling chicken and pork ribs, and we want to show them how the pros do it.
🪵 What We Need:
Your Setup: Bring your cookers, pop-up tents, and tables to create a mini competitive cook site.
Your Wisdom: Help guide backyard cooks through prep, fire management, and timing.
Arrival: by 8:00 AM on July 11th.
🧂 Got Sponsors?
This is a fantastic marketing opportunity! If you have a sponsor for charcoal, rubs, or sauces—or make your own—bring ‘em out. Showcase the gear and flavors that win calls while giving your sponsors some great exposure.
It’s going to be a fun, relaxed day hanging out with the NEBS family, talking shop, and sharing the BBQ love—minus the pressure of the turn-in clock.
👉 Space is limited based on the venue layout! Head to the link in our bio to fill out the Google Form and secure your team’s spot, or copy the link here: https://forms.gle/9XSAQoUcmVcaaT7f9

🔥 HISTORY WAS MADE IN MAINE! 🔥
What an absolute blockbuster weekend to kick off the NEBS sanctioned season! The inaugural BBQ Battle at the Bow in Lyman, ME, is officially in the books, and wow... the Northeast BBQ scene is officially on notice.
The competition was fierce, the smoke was sweet, and the talent on display was next level. Huge congratulations to our top three finishers who brought their absolute A-game to the pits—and by doing so, all three have officially punched their tickets to the prestigious NEBS Invitational (The Nic) this November! 🎟️✨
Let’s hear it for the podium:
🥉 3rd Place Overall: Ocean Grove BBQ (Qualified for The Nic!)
🥈 Reserve Grand Champion: Hillside BBQ (Qualified for The Nic!)
🏆 GRAND CHAMPION: Baller BBQ (Qualified for The Nic!)
Let’s talk about our Grand Champion for a second, because history was truly made this weekend. Baller BBQ is a one-person team commanded by 15-year-old pitmaster Laura Whiteside. Not only did she out-smoke a field of seasoned veterans all by herself, but she shattered expectations by scoring over 350 points in a two-meat contest. That is an extraordinary, master-level achievement for any team, let alone a solo teenage prodigy. We can’t wait to see her bring that smoke to The Nic!
Laura, the entire Northeast Barbecue Society is in awe of your talent, work ethic, and dedication. The future of BBQ is here, and it’s bright.
Thank you to all the teams who cooked, the judges who scored, the organizers who made this inaugural event a massive success, and The Bow for being such an incredible host venue. See you at the next one! 🍖💨
