Harrison and Emily Kirk Foundation

Harrison and Emily Kirk Foundation We are a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to the youth in our community. The idea of the youth encouragement organization began when Mrs. Mrs.

Kirk and three other women, Mrs. Offord Jackson, Mrs. Dora McKenzie and Mrs. Ester Tillman, in the community would have Sunday prayer and fellowship together. There was a need by Mrs. Offord Jackson, who was rearing her Grandson George Anderson, who wanted to attend college; however, they were financially unable to send him. Kirk presented her vision to Mrs. Jackson, which was to help her Grandson

enter college. The two ladies were joined by Mrs. Tillmand, forming an organization know as the “Northside Youth Encouragement Organization. The organization was later renamed The Youth Encouragement Organization because our assistance reached beyond the Northside of Fort Worth, Texas. In the early years of the Foundation, some of the Northside churches opened their doors to enable the organization to have various fund raisers such a musicals, programs with speakers, Sunday Teas and Stay at Home Teas*

*Stay at Home Teas: the members of the organization would send persons in the community a tea bag in the mail and the community would respond by mailing back a donation. Since the first scholarship award, to George Anderson in 1962, the Foundation has continued to encourage the youth of our community through awards each year, however to continue to do so takes contributions.
