Coming from different religious backgrounds and different parts of the United States, Phil and Anne Herrington met while pursuing degrees at and have now been serving together in San Diego for more than 30 years.

“We feel like this is definitely our mission field,” Phil Herrington said. “Lots of people are leaving California now because of the political climate and the cost [of living]. We just feel like we’re called to stay. This is our home now and we’re not leaving.”

Understanding the role of suffering in the Christian life, as taught in the book of 1 Peter, was the focus of the annual Effective Preaching Workshop at , Oct. 5.

"We need to be rock solid in our conviction that this is our Book,” Matthew McKellar said. “This is the inerrant, infallible Word of God that we’re going to preach. Without the authority of this Book, we have no message, and we have no authority.”

The children’s area of the Roberts Library at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary now has a more accessible location and a family reading hour every other Saturday, providing campus families a new space for their children to visit on Seminary Hill.

“We invite all our seminary community families to visit Roberts Library new children’s reading area,” said Craig Kubic, interim library director. “We hope they will find good material for their children and a fun space to share stories."

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Texas Baptist College (TBC) welcomed the community on Sept. 29, nearly filling Reynolds Auditorium for the Centennial Concert Celebration recognizing 100 years of musical training in the historic Cowden Hall.

"Tonight, we’re here to celebrate God’s faithfulness and the vision that He gave I.E. Reynolds when he designed Cowden Hall to train students to be biblically faithful, to be musically excellent, and to be ministry driven," Dean Joe Crider said.
