We need your help finding temporary homes for two very special cats.

They couldn’t be more different. But they both deserve more than we can give them right now.

🖤 Meet Phantom

Phantom appeared on our property one night with zero explanation and zero camera evidence. Just — kitten. All black. Staring at us like he had always been here.

He is approximately 6-8 weeks old, fully vetted, parasite treatment complete, and eating like he has never heard the word “enough.” If we don’t leave sufficient food overnight he will make his feelings about that very clearly known. Loudly. At 3am.

Phantom needs a foster home while he grows big enough for his neuter and vaccines. He needs somewhere with fewer cats and fewer germs — a safe, calm place to just be a kitten for a little while. He is young enough that he will likely adapt beautifully to dogs and kids but we honestly cannot say for certain yet because he just got here.

🩷 Meet Martini

Martini came to us with a traumatic hip injury requiring surgery. She survived. She recovered. She now does parkour at 3am in complete darkness like a tiny furry cryptid.

But underneath all that chaotic energy is a girl who is still finding her brave. She is fearful in new situations and needs more one on
one social interaction than a 180 cat sanctuary can realistically provide. She is trying so hard though. We know this because every morning we wake up and find her sleeping next to the bed
- close enough to feel safe, not quite ready to say so out loud.
Martini needs a patient foster who will let her get there on her own terms. She will get there. She just needs someone willing to wait.

First the news — because of your incredible generosity we are sitting at approximately $3,600 raised. We are $400 away from our goal. Four hundred dollars. After everything — the middle finger from Airbnb, the empty calendar, the vet bills, the fear — we are $400 from the finish line.

And Cookie would like to say something about that.

She is so moved by your support that she has apparently taken to weeping with gratitude. We like to think she’s channeling her inner Sarah McLachlan. We are not crying. She is crying. On our behalf. You’re welcome.

Cookie’s dental is confirmed for June 26th and thanks to people who love her as their own daughter she is covered. She wanted you to know personally. Hence the tear.

Here’s the rest of the update because life at Purradise never slows down:

Phantom — our mystery all black kitten who appeared from nowhere — is doing well, healthy, and still looking for a foster. He is treated, parasite free, and ready for someone with a soft lap and a flexible sleep schedule. Please. Someone take this child. He deserves a spotlight and we cannot give him one right now.

And then there is Martini.

Martini had hip surgery. Martini survived. Martini now does parkour at 3am in complete darkness like a tiny furry cryptid. But underneath all that chaotic energy is a girl who is still a little bit fearful and needs more social interaction than a 180 cat sanctuary can give her. She is trying so hard though. Every morning I wake up and find her sleeping next to my bed like she crept in overnight just to be close. She just needs someone patient enough to let her get there on her own terms.

Two fosters needed. Two cats ready to change someone’s life. Is that someone you?

The Tuttle kitties are settled and thriving — one of their supporters showed up with a $500 donation that genuinely made us cry. The real kind, not the Cookie kind.

Thom’s EEG monitoring is scheduled for the 29th. He will be admitted to the hospital for testing related to his seizure condition. We are relieved it’s finally happening and terrified in the way you’re always terrified when someone you love is in a hospital bed. That’s just the truth.

As for me — I spent the last two days bedridden from a steroid rebound. My body apparently decided that was the hill it wanted to die on this week. I am upright today and that feels like a victory worth celebrating. My rheumatology appointment is coming up and we are finally — finally — getting answers.

We share all of this because you deserve to know what rescue actually looks like. It’s not just the cats. It’s two humans running on empty, taking no salaries, managing their own health crises while making sure 180 cats never miss a meal. This is the real cost of what we do. And we would do it all again.

Update time. And this one comes with a mystery.🙀🙀🙀

First — thank you. We are now at $2,300 raised. $1,700 away from our goal. Every single dollar matters and every single share matters and we are so grateful you are still with us.

Now. About last night.

Three of our sponsored Tuttle kitties arrived safely and are settling in. That’s the expected part of the evening.

The unexpected part? Meet Phantom.

Phantom is an all black kitten, approximately 6-8 weeks old, who simply… appeared on our property last night. No camera evidence of being dropped. No explanation. Just suddenly — kitten. All black. Staring at us like they had always been here.

We smeared meat baby food on their lips this morning and Phantom decided life was worth living after all. They are eating, calm, and currently letting us hold them like they own the place. Which honestly they might.

But here’s the thing — we cannot keep Phantom. Not right now. We have no space, no time, and no resources for a young kitten who needs dedicated one on one attention. Phantom deserves better than being lost in a sanctuary of 180 cats.

We need a foster.

It’s been a few days and we are long overdue for an update.

First — thank you. Because of you we have raised $2,200. We are so close to our goal and we would not be here without every single person who donated, shared, or simply sent love our way. It means more than we can say.

Here’s where things stand:

Cookie — our girl, our daughter, our tiny drama queen — is scheduled for her dental on June 26th. And in one of the most beautiful examples of what this community can do, the funds for her procedure were given intentionally and specifically by people who love her as their own. You know who you are. She doesn’t. But we do. Thank you.

Martini — our post-surgical parkour queen — continues to thrive in the most unhinged way possible. We cannot get her on camera because she exclusively performs at 2am in complete darkness like a tiny furry cryptid. She came to us broken and terrified. She is now apparently training for the feline Olympics. Your donations made that possible.

Coming soon — we are working on a dental sponsorship program for the ten cats in our sanctuary who need procedures urgently. Donors will be able to pledge directly to our vet, bypassing us entirely. On the human side of things — we want to be transparent with you because you deserve nothing less.

Thom will be admitted to the hospital at the end of the month for EEG monitoring related to his seizure condition. This is necessary and we are grateful it’s finally happening. It is also one more thing on a very full plate.

I recently received the first steps toward an autoimmune diagnosis and have a rheumatology appointment in two weeks. We are finally — finally — taking care of ourselves the way we have always taken care of these cats. It only took complete physical collapse to get us here but here we are.

We share this not for sympathy but so you understand the full picture. Two people. 180 cats. No salaries. Real health challenges. Still showing up every single day. This is what it actually looks like.

Three days ago we shared our truth with you. Today we want to share your response.

You showed up. $1,000 raised across platforms in three days. We are overwhelmed with gratitude and we are sorry it took us this long to say so. Life at Purradise doesn’t pause for paperwork — or thank you posts — and that’s on us.

So. THANK YOU. From the bottom of our hearts and on behalf of 180 cats who have no idea how many humans are fighting for them right now.

A quick update on who your dollars are helping:

Martini — the girl who needed hip surgery and apparently decided recovery means 3am parkour sessions across the sanctuary. She is skittish as ever and absolutely thriving. Your support helped pay for the surgery that gave her that ridiculous, wonderful, chaotic second chance.

Cookie — our latest concern. We took her to the vet yesterday for what turned out to be severe oral inflammation. She needs a dental procedure in the coming weeks and we’ll need to raise for that when the time comes. For now she’s on pain medication and eating the homemade soft food we blended for her because that’s what we do here.

Something else happened at the vet yesterday that we can’t stop thinking about.

We witnessed a kitten — sick, frightened, treatable — be euthanized. We offered to take her. Our vet tried to intervene. The staff tried. We all tried. But here’s something most people don’t know — a veterinarian cannot legally take an animal from its owner, even when everyone in the room wants to. Even when there are people willing to pay. Even when there is a sanctuary sitting right there with open arms. The owner makes the call. Period. And we had to stand there and watch.

We are not sharing this to judge that owner. People make impossible decisions under impossible circumstances — financial pressure, mental exhaustion, feeling like there are no options. We are sharing it because it illustrates exactly what happens when a county has no real safety net for animals or the people who love them. No resources. No options. No place to turn.

We want to be that place. We are trying to be that place. But right now we are barely keeping our own lights on.

I need to tell you something and I need you to actually read it.

We are in trouble. Real, terrifying, I-don’t-know-what-comes-next trouble.

June 2024: $6,300.
June 2026: $114.

Let that sink in.

Same property. Same cats. Same two people working themselves into the ground for no salary. Same 4.97 stars across 578 reviews. Same 100% response rate. Same Washington Post feature. Brand new tents we just invested in because we believed in what we were building.

Our last four reviews? All five stars. The tents are not the problem. WE are not the problem.

$114.

The platform we have poured four years of five-star effort into is giving us the middle finger and I am done pretending that’s not exactly what’s happening. But it’s bigger than Airbnb. Florida tourism is in freefall. The economy is in chaos. The decisions being made at the top are crushing the smallest and most vulnerable at the bottom. Places like us. People like us.

And July? We have zero bookings. Zero.

I know what you’re thinking. What are you doing wrong? We’ve asked ourselves that every single day. We’ve lowered prices. Raised prices. Updated listings. Refreshed photos. Responded to every message within minutes. Maintained nearly perfect reviews for four years. There is nothing left to try that we haven’t tried. This isn’t an us problem. This is an everything problem.

Thom and I take no salaries. Every dollar this place earns goes directly to the cats. All 180+ of them. We are also quietly navigating serious health challenges of our own right now. We are tapped. Completely. Financially, physically, emotionally. And we are still here. Every single day. Because 180 cats don’t get a day off and neither do we.

We still owe $2,000 in veterinary bills for Lucky and Martini. Lucky didn’t make it. We grieved him publicly and we are still paying for the care we gave him because that’s what you do when you love an animal. Martini is recovering. Slowly. Expensively. Both bills remain.

We need $2,000 more just to cover basic operating costs in the next week. Food. Utilities. The bills that don’t care that Airbnb abandoned us.

$4,000. That’s the number standing between us and a very dark place.

I’ll be honest — I almost didn’t write this post. It’s hard to ask. It’s hard to admit how bad it actually is. It’s hard to show you the real numbers when part of me is still hoping this is a nightmare I’ll wake up from.
