Last night’s Porch Devotion was such a meaningful reminder of what it looks like to follow Jesus in a world where we don’t always feel like we belong. ❤️

We talked about how traveling abroad puts you in unfamiliar territory - you may not know all the customs, understand the language, or do things the way everyone around you does.

Following Jesus can feel a lot like that.

As Christians, we’re called to live by God’s standards, even when the culture around us is moving in a different direction. We aren’t called to simply blend in. We’re called to live differently- to love differently, choose differently, and keep our eyes fixed on Christ.

And what a gift it is to have a community of people walking that road alongside us. 🫶

So thankful for another beautiful evening on the porch - good conversation, laughter, encouragement, and time spent growing together in our faith.

We may be living in this world, but we’re living for something greater. ❤️

Heidi is a licensed clinical social worker, mental health provider, theologian, deaconess, author, and speaker whose work explores the intersection of faith, mental health, relationships, and the very real emotions we experience every day.

As the author of Emotions & the Gospel: Created for Connection, Heidi brings a refreshing perspective to a question many of us wrestle with: What does our faith have to say about what we feel?

Joy and gratitude can feel easy to connect to our faith—but what about anger, sadness, fear, disappointment, guilt, or simply feeling overwhelmed? Heidi will help us look at our emotions through the lens of Scripture and discover how even the complicated parts of our emotional lives can point us toward connection—with God and with one another.
