Fire & Light Academy Fire & Light is a theatre troupe that creates, engages, and inspires the greater Fort Wayne area. Welcome! We educate nearly 100 youth, ages 8-18.

Fire & Light Academy offers a nurturing, educational environment where kids can learn all aspects of theater arts, including set design, painting and construction, sound and light facilitation, music, stage movement, and direction and leadership skills. We are more than just a theater program; we consider ourselves a ministry. As our troupe portrays a story, we steal a glimpse at another person's perspective and walk of life. Fire & Light Academy performs throughout the city. We perform classic plays for the community twice a year and offer a musical camp for kids ages 8-18 each summer. Theater is our form of worshiping the Father of Creativity. Find us on Instagram!

Behind the Curtain, episode three: Sara Scantlin 🎭

If you've ever been a Fire & Light parent with a question, you've probably met Sara. As our parent liaison and lead director, she's the friendly face who helps families find their footing, and the steady hand making sure every show runs smoothly behind the scenes.

Sara has been part of this family since 2010: leading ensembles, running the tech booth, and keeping our growing organization humming. She does it all because she believes in what happens when kids take the stage.

Like our donors give money, people like Sara give their time. Want to help bring a show to life? Send us a message with the word VOLUNTEER.

Beyond the Stage 🎭
In theater, nobody succeeds alone. The actor needs the crew, the crew needs the director, and everybody needs whoever remembered the gaffer's tape. (The tape is basically a cast member.)

That's the real takeaway our students carry home: how to work as a team, under pressure, with a curtain going up whether you're ready or not.

There's no orchestra in this video. That's the point. 🎶

This is Greg Otis, our music instructor, conducting a pretend orchestra during our *Singin' in the Rain* rehearsals because one of our characters conducts on stage, and someone had to teach them how.

Greg's real work happens before the curtain goes up: the practices, the warm-ups, the hours of shaping young voices. Once the performance starts, he steps back-his part is done.

Greg is sensational at what he does, and so passionate about it. He holds himself and his students to a higher standard, helping them reach their highest potential with every show, and he's the one who brings out those angelic voices you hear in every performance.

It's one of a hundred invisible jobs that bring a production to life. And starting tomorrow, we're pulling back the curtain to meet the people who do them, beginning with the first episode of our new series, Behind the Curtain.

Beyond the Stage, week one: Belonging 🎭
There's nothing quite like a cast circle. Every performer leaning in, every voice part of one sound. Theatre gives kids something rare: a place where they truly belong, exactly as they are. It's the Cosmo-to-your-Don kind of friendship - the people who learn your cues, laugh with you backstage, and cheer the loudest from the wings. (And the real lesson of Singin' in the Rain? Nobody saves the show alone.)

Belonging like this doesn't stay on the stage. Kids who've felt it carry it into new schools, new teams, and new friendships because they know what it's like to be part of something.

Tag a theatre friend who's become family.
