Last week, The Brave Little Bears Foundation had the opportunity to bring something special to Take Your Child to Work Day at Ballard Spahr LLP —and the response from kids (and parents!) was incredible 💛

We created a mobile sensory room, offering a supportive break space for both sensory-seeking and sensory-sensitive children—because every child deserves a space where they feel comfortable and understood.

We also introduced The Brave Bear Wall 🐻 where kids added their names to bear cutouts and decorated them with stickers to express who they are, how they feel, and what they love. It was more than just an activity, it was a celebration of identity, inclusion, and the idea that all minds—neurodiverse and neurotypical—belong.

The joy, creativity, and confidence we saw were exactly why we do this work.

We’re so excited to continue building these inclusive experiences at the Ambler Arts & Music Fest on June 20 and at community events in Montgomery County, PA this summer.

Because every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and celebrated.

At The Brave Little Bears Foundation, we believe every child deserves the support they need to grow, play, and thrive.

Our grant program provides funding to children with developmental disabilities and their families, helping remove barriers and create access to meaningful opportunities.

✨ Therapy Grants (up to $3,000) support private therapies not covered by insurance
✨ Activity Grants ($250–$2,500) fund adaptive, inclusive programs and skill-building experiences
✨ Recreational Access Grants ($100–$500) provide the extra support needed to fully participate in community activities

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed quarterly. Recipients must be resident in Montgomery County, PA.

Whether it’s access to therapy, a first swim lesson, or the support needed to join a team—these moments matter. And we’re here to help make them possible.

Right in time for World Autism Acceptance Day 💙

A reminder we carry with us always: presume capacity. Every child deserves to be seen for what they can do, not limited by assumptions about what they can’t.

Today is about acceptance, inclusion, and creating spaces where all kids feel supported, understood, and celebrated. We’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to learn, grow, and show up for one another.

Last night, we had the privilege of attending the 2nd Annual Landon’s Legacy Bubble Bash 🫧

Landon’s Legacy Foundation, based in Chandler, Arizona, is dedicated to creating a safer and more accessible world for individuals with disabilities and rare diseases through advocacy, caregiver education, and inclusive spaces.

With local ties to our community, this event brought so many people together for a meaningful evening of cocktails, dinner, and a silent auction—all in support of that mission.

We are always inspired by fellow families and organizations working to make a difference, and we’re grateful to stand alongside them in supporting children and families in the disability community 🤍

❤️ Rare Disease Day ❤️

Meet Kayleigh, one of only 80 known individuals in the world diagnosed with ZNF292-related syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder. She is also the daughter of Brave Little Bears board member Jim McCabe.

ZNF292-related syndrome is so rare that it does not yet have dedicated research funding. Organizations like Simons Searchlight are working to build natural history data and research networks so that children like Kayleigh can have better understanding, improved care, and—one day—targeted treatments.

This past year, Kayleigh has made meaningful progress. She has started eating bites of solid foods and is communicating more using emerging language and her AAC device. Every small milestone represents extraordinary effort.

Her growth has been supported by consistent access to skilled therapists and aides over several years. Jim joined the Brave Little Bears board because he believes deeply that families should have access to private therapy services when they need them most.

On Rare Disease Day, we celebrate Kayleigh and every brave little bear living with a rare condition, diagnosed or still searching for answers.

If you’d like to support families navigating rare diagnoses that cause developmental disabilities, we invite you to donate to the Brave Little Bears Foundation.

💛 Rare Disease Day 💛

Meet King Louie—the absolute ruler of his elementary school and, in many ways, one of the rarest of all.

Louie has no diagnosis.

Louie is the son of Brave Little Bears board member Rose Lovejoy. She and her husband have worked tirelessly with some of the best medical professionals, searching for answers. And yet, his diagnosis remains a mystery.

This happens more often than most people realize. Genetic factors are responsible for up to 50% of developmental disabilities, yet approximately 60% of children with developmental or intellectual disabilities of suspected genetic origin never receive a specific, identifiable diagnosis. That means so many families are left without clear answers—and often without access to targeted resources, research, or community.

Our bodies are incredibly complex. There is still so much we don’t know and so much research still to be done for our brave little bears. On Rare Disease Day, we honor not only those with diagnoses, but also those still searching for answers.

To learn more about ultra-rare diseases, visit the National Organization for Rare Disorders at rarediseases.org.

If you’d like to support families navigating rare and undiagnosed conditions that cause developmental disabilities, we invite you to donate to The Brave Little Bears Foundation. Every contribution helps families feel less alone. 💛

💙 Rare Disease Day 💙

Meet Jay: rare in every sense of the word and one of the original Brave Little Bears who inspired Kristen and Kyle to start The Brave Little Bears Foundation.

Jay has GRIN2B-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder. There are only about 750 known cases worldwide, and he is the only person with his exact gene mutation.

This past year was tough on his health. There were hard days. But through it all, he still smiled. He still giggled. And in true Jay fashion, he still blew kisses to friends, family, and even strangers. 💙

Today we celebrate Jay — and every brave little bear fighting quiet battles with extraordinary strength.

If you’d like to honor Rare Disease Day with us, please consider supporting the GRIN2B Foundation or The Brave Little Bears Foundation. Your support helps families like Jay’s feel seen, supported, and less alone.

Thank you for being part of this community. 💙
