Long before Pride parades filled the streets, LGBTQ+ people found freedom at the water’s edge. As early as the 1940s, gay men and le****ns quietly claimed certain stretches of shoreline — like the sands of NE 17th Street in Fort Lauderdale — as spaces where they could simply be.

That same spirit lives on in Out Scuba’s upcoming membership beach party and shore dive. We’re inviting our community to carry that legacy into the deep blue, swapping the shoreline for the reef and the towel for a BCD, proving that the ocean has always had space for us. Come for the dive, stay for the party — because some traditions are worth keeping.
