Anybody can throw an event. Building a recognized Pride movement takes history, partnerships, trust, and community. This October, Black Prides United is raising the bar again.

Can liberation have exceptions?

We cannot ask the world to see our humanity while refusing to recognize the humanity of people within our own community.

Black LGBTQ+ people are not separate from the Black experience. They are our family, our friends, our neighbors, our leaders, and part of our history.

Liberation that requires someone else to stay marginalized isn’t liberation for all.

So let’s talk about it: Can we truly demand equality if our definition of equality leaves some of us behind?

We know what it feels like to fight for equality. But can we demand acceptance for ourselves while withholding it from others in our own community?

Black LGBTQ+ people are not separate from the Black community. We are the Black community.

Equality cannot stop where our comfort does.

So let’s talk about it: Can we truly fight for Black liberation if that liberation doesn’t include everyone?
