Gary was a much loved, versatile, and well-established musician not only in South Florida but internationally. He lent his talents in instruments from drums, percussion, and piano to vibraphones not only to some of the most well-known vocalists such as Sinatra, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Lucianno Pavoratti, Placido Domingo & R
oberta Flack but also recording with musical greats such as Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Nestor Torres and Micheal Brecker. Gary also appeared alongside international stars Issac Stern and YoYo Ma, to name just a few. In South Florida, Gary added to the world of classical music playing with The Florida Philharmonic, The Miami Opera, The Miami City Ballet, The Treasure Coast Opera, The Palm Beach Pops, The Peter Graves Orchestra, The Florida Festival Orchestra, The South Florida Symphony, The Miami Beach Symphony, The Palm Beach Opera, Symphony Verci, The Gold Coast Opera and Boca Pops. In Jazz, Gary received accolades by the President of Who’s Who in Jazz and opened for Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Phoebe Snow, Gato Barbieri, and Randy Bernsen’s Ocean Sound Band. He could often be found locally behind the piano in Big Bands such as the Bobby Rodriguez Orchestra. In addition, he contributed his talent to countless prominent Broadway shows and Television programs. Earning the title of The American Reggae Expert Gary added his Caribbean flair to T***s and The Maytals, , The Rhythm Kings, Beres Hammond, Tyronne Taylor, Ernie Rglan, Othello Molineaux and other Reggae stars at the Sunsplash & SunFest Music Festivals. He was a member of Music Educators National Conference, National Association of Jazz Educators, and Percussive Arts Society. Gary composed and recorded numerous compositions, receiving credit in Modern Drummer, authored a book “Practicing Methods for the Contemporary Musician” as well as receiving a patent for a special vibraphone extension that added seven notes to the upper end of the instrument. There isn’t an area of music that Gary’s talent and life hasn’t touched. His exuberance for music, his musician and non-musician friends and family and his life in South Florida should not be forgotten.
