Community Leadership spotlight of the week goes to Ja’Lexia Watson. Ja’Lexia graduated from Ferriday High School May, 2026. Her statement of passion and purpose: I plan to pursue higher education because working with babies has always been my passion. My goal is to become a NICU nurse or a pediatric nurse, and I plan to attend Southern University and A&M College to earn my nursing degree. Higher education will give me the knowledge and skills I need to turn my passion into purpose and provide the best care possible.
Community advocacy, to me, means support. I want to support parents who are going through one of the hardest moments imaginable, not knowing if their child will live or die.
She earned her CNA license at the age of seventeen and it showed her she has a head start in the nursing field.
Balancing high school and dual enrollment nursing classes taught her discipline and focus, especially when understanding difficult material and passing exams.
Ja’Lexia is also a recipient of the Valarie Rochell Jackson Memorial Scholarship to contribute to her higher education journey. We celebrate her and wish her continued success in her commitment to higher education, community advocacy and personal growth.
