From the Aroostook Agency on Aging:

We are excited to announce the launch of Aroostook Voices to Action, an updated and reimagined version of the Aroostook Civic Academy designed to strengthen community engagement, leadership development, and civic participation throughout Aroostook County.

This year, the program is being offered through a partnership between the Aroostook Agency on Aging, Central Aroostook Association, and Stand Up for Us. Based on feedback from previous participants and community partners, the series has been redesigned from six sessions to four focused sessions, making it more accessible for individuals who want to increase their involvement in their communities while balancing other commitments.

The program will be delivered through selected community Access Points across Aroostook County and will be held on Wednesday mornings throughout the month of October. Participants will have opportunities to connect, learn, and take action on issues that matter locally while building relationships with community leaders and fellow residents.

We are seeking individuals who are passionate about their communities, interested in building leadership skills, and eager to make a positive impact in Aroostook County.

In addition, we encourage prospective participants to attend an Informational Session on September 23rd, where they can learn more about the program, ask questions, and hear what they can expect from the Aroostook Voices to Action experience.

Our September meetings are on the 9th, 16th, and 23rd. The meeting on the 16th will be exclusively to draw our two Early Bird cash draw winners. All meetings are at 7:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Visitors are welcome.

This morning we honored the Fort Fairfield Police Department for all they do for our community.

This was the presentation:

Good morning. Today we have the privilege of recognizing Chief Cummings and the Fort Fairfield Department.

The Rotary has a guiding principle: Service Above Self. It is a reminder that we should look beyond our own needs and dedicate our time, talent, and energy to the well-being of our community.

That same principal is at also what guides Chief Cummings and the Fort Fairfield Police Department, but to an even higher degree. While Rotarians strive to meet this standard in our projects, the officers of the Fort Fairfield Police Department live out this motto every hour of every shift.

When a call comes in, you step into uncertainty, putting your own safety on the line to preserve the peace of our town. That willingness to put the safety of others ahead of your own comfort is the ultimate definition of Service Above Self.

We also extend our thanks to your families, who give you the support you need and often miss time with you when you have to answer emergency calls.

We are proud to partner with you in several projects. The DARE program has been a great success at our Elementary School, and we thank Sgt. Cormier for leading this. We thank Chief Cummings for his providing bike safety lessons at our Bike Rodeo, leading the Bike parade down Main Street, and running the Riding with Jacob program at the event.

We are greatly appreciative of all the Fort Fairfield Police Department does for this town. Rotary members, please join me in giving these officers a round of applause.
