“Land is not merely soil; it is a fountain of energy flowing through a circuit of soils, plants, and animals.”
— Aldo Leopold 🌱

Learning from the land starts with seeing it differently.

Not just as dirt, but as something living, connected, and always in motion. 🌾

This is the kind of understanding that shapes how we support farmers and steward land at PVCF.

If you want to understand how water and soil work together on a farm, this is a good place to start.

Drought smart irrigation.
Soil management that helps hold water longer.
Real practices that support both production and conservation.

This workshop brings together partners across our region who are working on these challenges every day, from land managers to conservation and agriculture organizations.

It is a chance to learn how this work is actually being done, and who is doing it. Join us on April 21st.

Registration closes April 14th. Link in comments to learn more and register. 💧🌱

In 2025, PVCF supported 10 farmers growing food for this community.

Together, they produced over 100,000 pounds of food across 250 acres of land.

That is vegetables, meat, flowers, and more moving into farmers markets, restaurants, and local homes.

But impact is not just measured in pounds.

It is land staying in agriculture.
Soil being improved instead of depleted.
Farmers having the stability to keep going year after year.

This is what it looks like to build a local food system that lasts. 🌾

At a farm tour last year, 75 people showed up to Flores del Sol to walk the land and talk with farmers.

That matters 🌱

Because conservation is not just something that happens on a farm 🚜
It is something people have to understand to support.

When people see how soil is cared for, how water is managed, how food is grown, it changes how they think about agriculture.

Education is part of conservation.
And community is what makes that education stick. 🐝

Last week, there were people out at Flores del Sol moving things forward.

Checking in on plots.
Talking through irrigation.
Figuring out what comes next for the space and the farmers working it.

Not one big moment. Just people showing up to do the work together.

PVCF exists to connect farmers to land and water.
But what actually keeps things moving is the community around that land. 🌱🤝

One month until our next book club.

This is a space for people who care about where food comes from and want to understand the systems behind it.

Farmers, eaters, and community members all in the same conversation.

Because local food is not just grown. It is supported by people who show up, ask questions, and stay connected.

If you are driving down Timberline, you might notice some new activity at Flores del Sol.

We were awarded a USDA RFSI grant and are building a high tunnel at the farm.

This space will be used by producers to wash, pack, and prep food as it moves from the field to farmers markets and CSA shares.

It is a small shift that makes a big difference in how a farm operates day to day.

More to come as it takes shape. 🌱

Today is World Water Day.💧

Water is not a given in agriculture. It is one of the most limiting and essential resources a farmer has.

Without access to water, land cannot produce food. Crops do not grow. Farms cannot operate.

At PVCF, securing access to water is just as important as securing access to land. It is what allows farmers to grow food, care for the soil, and build something that lasts.

Water is where farming begins. 🌱🚜

The last couple of weeks on the farm have been busy in the best way.

High tunnels are going up, seeds are getting started, and a lot of hands have been on the ground building and repairing the infrastructure that makes a growing season possible. This is the part people don’t always see, but it is what makes everything else work.

At Flores del Sol, this work is made possible through partnership. City of Fort Collins Natural Areas provides the land, Poudre Valley Community Farms secures access and supports producers, and the Northern Colorado Foodshed Project runs the Farm Incubator Program that helps new farmers learn, test, and grow.

None of this happens alone. It takes people showing up for each other, sharing knowledge, and building something together from the ground up.

This is what it looks like to grow local food in Northern Colorado. 🌱

At City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Flores del Sol Natural Area, Amy James is building The Grazing Goat Colorado from the ground up.

Amy grows a mix of vegetables and specialty flowers using organic, sustainable practices, with a focus on producing high quality, nutrient dense food for her community.

She is part of the Northern Colorado Foodshed Project’s Farm Business Accelerator program and farms on PVCF land, where she is continuing to develop her operation and expand her reach through CSA shares, local markets, and restaurant partnerships.

Amy believes deeply in connecting people to where their food comes from and making local food more accessible.

We are grateful to be part of her farming journey.

You can learn more about The Grazing Goat CO and our other producers on our website. Link in comments. 🌱

At Flores del Sol Natural Area, new farmers are learning how to build their farms from the ground up.

That work happens through partnership.

Poudre Valley Community Farms provides access to land.
Northern Colorado Foodshed Project runs the Farm Incubator Program that supports beginning farmers as they learn, test ideas, and grow their businesses.

This partnership creates a place where new farmers can gain experience, build skills, and begin putting down roots in Northern Colorado agriculture. Because the future of farming is built together. 🌱🚜
