This past fall, one of our Indian undergraduate students from Hyderabad, Telangana, Phalya Gudipudi (), performed at the India Association of Northern Colorado (IANC)’s Deepanjali event. One of our other undergraduate students from Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, Sagar Kothari (), captured the moments leading up to and of the event itself, aiming to bring light to the effort that student performers put into their art but often goes unseen to the general audience.

Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, marks the end of the Navratri festival and is observed with various traditions and rituals. The festival commemorates the victory of good over evil, it depicts how the Goddess Durga gains victory over the demon king Mahishasura, where evil forces are killed and righteousness is empowered. This festival also draws its significance from the epic Ramayana. On this day, Rama’s victory over the demon king Ravana, who had abducted Rama’s wife, Sita, is celebrated. Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, defeats and kills Ravana, symbolizing the triumph of righteousness.

Wishing you all a Happy Vijayadashami!! ✨
