Big news — our leadership team is growing!

Plane Wellness was founded in July 2023, and our first course launched in January 2024. Since then, we've delivered 98 courses, with 25 more on the calendar. Today, we're proud to welcome three new volunteer Directors who will help carry us into the next chapter:

Zack Thompson — Director of Instructor Engagement
The maker behind Furniture City Customs in Grand Rapids, MI, Zack combines a career leading software revenue teams with a deep passion for traditional and modern woodworking, biophilic design, and antique tool restoration.

Matthew Walsh — Director of Course Delivery
A furniture maker and educator based in Perth, Ontario, Matt owns Rosewood Studio and brings 20+ years of woodworking education experience, along with a leadership background from the Canadian Armed Forces.

Logan Amann — Director of Student Engagement
A flight nurse and paramedic, Logan brings compassionate leadership from his medical career, along with a love of woodworking, whittling, and homestead life.

These three will need a bit of time to ramp up as they take over responsibilities Jamie has been carrying since Day One. Please join us in giving them a warm welcome!

We've got a brand new instructor at NovaLabs in Fairfax — and his first course is something special. 🎸🪵

Beginner Woodworking Guitar Kit Build with Kalimar Maia

Kalimar started building electric guitars in 2021 with nothing but determination and a love for the craft. Today he builds electrics, cigar box guitars, and box ukuleles — and one of his custom guitars is currently on tour with the band Toledo.

In this two-day, hands-on workshop, you'll shape a guitar body and headstock, do complete fretwork, solder your own electronics, apply a finish, and walk out the door with a fully playable electric guitar you built yourself. The kit (valued at $200+) is included. No experience needed — just enthusiasm.

We're thrilled to welcome Matt Cottrill to the Plane Wellness board as our newest Member at Large! 🎉

Matt grew up in the mountains of West Virginia where carpentry and metalwork were part of everyday life — the kind of upbringing that builds a true jack of all trades. He went on to serve 9 years in the US Navy, and after leaving the service, channeled his energy into serving fellow veterans. As president of Capital Beltway Warriors LLC from 2019–2023, he helped build a community where disabled veterans could find camaraderie and connection through the sport of ice hockey.

In 2023, Matt rediscovered his passion for creating — working across woodworking, metalwork, laser, and more — and launched Cottrill Tool and Woodworks, where he provides refurbished hand tools, new woodworking tools, and consumables.

Matt brings a wealth of experience, heart, and craftsmanship to our board, and we couldn't be more excited to have him on the team. Welcome, Matt!

Jordan Stoltzfus of Proud Foot Woodworking (Ohio) brings 11+ years of woodworking experience rooted in the trades, construction, and cabinetry. He's a husband, father of three, and a passionate teacher who believes in the power of slow, intentional skill-building.

His first course with us is one we think a lot of you will love:

Designing Furniture: From Idea to Scale Model Ever built a piece that turned out a little... off? This two-hour virtual workshop will change the way you approach design. Jordan walks you through generating concepts, drawing to scale, and building a simple cardboard model — all before you touch your wood. No artistic background needed.
