As we wrap up our Volunteer Spotlight series for the school year, we wanted to end by celebrating one of Prairie Trail’s biggest champions: Natalie Smith❤️
For the past 9 years, Natalie has poured her heart into Prairie Trail PTA, serving in countless roles including Room Rep Chair, Treasurer, VP of Volunteers, Spring Fest Chair, Silent Auction, Sunshine, Reflections, and President. Whether she was organizing events behind the scenes, recruiting volunteers, helping families feel welcome, or leading major initiatives for our school, Natalie has truly done it all.
Natalie shared that she first got involved because she wanted to meet people, become part of the school community, and show her boys the importance of giving back. One welcoming PTA board member encouraged her to jump in as Room Rep Chair, and from there, her Prairie Trail journey took off. Over the years, the people she has served alongside have become lifelong friends.
One of Natalie’s favorite parts of volunteering has been helping with Spring Fest and seeing the excitement on students’ faces when the rides arrive each year. She also loved helping pull off last year’s unforgettable membership drive celebration when Mrs. Vaughn camped out on the school roof after the school reached its goal.
When asked what she will miss most about PTE, Natalie said it’s the people — the students, staff, and families who made Prairie Trail feel like home. From hallway hugs and high fives to students recognizing her around town, she said the everyday interactions were what made volunteering so special. Many students even thought she worked at the school!
Outside of PTA, Natalie has been married to her husband Ryan for 20 years this May and is mom to Carter and Weston. Before staying home with her boys, she worked as a PA in orthopedic hand and wrist surgery. These days, when she’s not volunteering, you can usually find her taking long walks with her dog Junie — her self-proclaimed “favorite child.” 🐶
Natalie, thank you for the years of leadership, dedication, encouragement, and love you have given to Prairie Trail. While we are so sad to see your family move on to middle school, your impact on PTE will be felt for years to come. Prairie Trail is better because of you, and we are so grateful for everything you’ve done for our school community. ❤️
