Forestry Association of South Carolina The Forestry Association of SC is a private non-profit organization dedicated to forest conservation & advocating for the forest industry.

The Forestry Association is a private, non-profit organization of individuals and companies dedicated to forest conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources. The Association is partnership of landowners, loggers, foresters, educators, researchers, conservationists, and sportsmen. They are joined by lumber mills, pulp and paper mills, wood processors, and equipment dealers. FASC helps them all deal with common concerns and reach common goals.

David Jones, SC Forestry Commission General Counsel, has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the SC Conservation Bank, replacing Raleigh West. “The Forestry Association of SC [FASC] has a close working relationship with David and I am confident he will do a good job protecting working forests,” says FASC President & CEO Cam Crawford. Jones must be confirmed by the SC Senate. He will continue working at the SC Forestry Commission until he is confirmed next year.

SAVE THE DATE. The SC Tree Farm Committee’s Field Tour & Awards Ceremony slated for September 24, 2026 will be held at the Aiken, SC Tree Farm owned by Barry Clark, 2025 SC Tree Farmer of the Year. Tour Stops will include: STOP 1 - The Longleaf Ecosystem; STOP 2 - Management Objectives - timber production and wildlife habitat; STOP 3 - Wildlife Nuisance Challenges; and STOP 4 - RX FIRE – stand health and wildlife benefits.
The Tour Planning Committee is headed up by SC Tree Farm Administrator Vann Page, SC Tree Farm Committee Chair Anneta Pritchard, and Barry Clark.

FASC’s Young Professionals hosted their first Golf Tournament on May 28, 2026 at Traces Golf Club, Florence, SC with 19 teams playing. The event raised $1,126 which will go towards the 2026 YP Summit slated for August 27-28 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Tournament coordinator was YP Secretary Justin Odom, Charles Ingram Lumber Co., Darlington, SC. He was assisted by Hunter Holladay with Santee Pole & Piling. Main event sponsors were the P*e Dee Chapter of the Society of American Foresters [food and beverage sponsor], and prize sponsors Profection and The Remedy barber shop. Prize winners, and overall winners: Longest Drive Winner – Todd Sweat (Tracys Logging Forest Products) – a gift certificate to Profection; Closest to Pin Winner – Kaleb Jackson – a gift basket provided by The Remedy barber shop; Putting Contest Winner – Adam Jacobs – winner of the 50/50 raffle ($140); Second Place overall – Kaleb Jackson and Tony Jacobs – a $50 Visa gift card each; and First Place overall – Todd Sweat and Patrick Daniels – a $100 Visa gift card each. “Special thanks to Robert Bryan, Florence, SC for catering the meal, and SC SAF for sponsoring the food and beverages,” says YP Coordinator Emily Oakman. We were saddened to learn that Bernie Deason, 82, of Prosperity, passed away May 17, 2026. He was a Board member for the Forestry Association of South Carolina [2000-2002], served as Chairman of the Forestry Association’s Transportation Committee for several years, and assisted with the Governor’s Forest Disaster Salvage Council after Hurricane Hugo. During his career with Stone Container, he received the Chairman’s Award for Excellence in 1995, a recognition that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication.
A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on May 23, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org.

Additional TOP class options have just been announced by TOP Program Director Vann Page. The South Carolina Forestry Commission’s BMP Staff will be holding in-person classes on June 19, 2026 at two different locations for the 2026 TOP Update Class.
