On April 30, the House passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 — the most significant movement on a new Farm Bill since 2018. While the vote is an important milestone, the bill falls short of what organic farmers and businesses need.

❌Flat funding for the National Organic Program, despite the fast pace of growth in the organic marketplace, which reached more than $76.6 billion in sales in 2025, up 6.8 percent from 2024.
❌No relief for rising certification costs, even as costs have risen more than 85% since 2012
❌Flat funding for organic research, which effectively means a cut for organic research support.
❌ Missing tools to help farmers transition to organic and reach growing markets.

The Senate now takes up its version of the Farm Bill. This is a critical moment for our community to engage.
Please take a moment to write to your Senator and urge them to fight for a Farm Bill that supports organic and family-scale farms. → https://secure.everyaction.com/wb-a8pb3jEiwwqDy-QSM9w2

⚠️ Action Alert: This hawk is looking at you to take action!

Be the voice for the voiceless. Call your state representative today to request they ask Chair Aaron Michlewitz and the House Ways & Means Committee to strengthen Sections 74 and 75 of the Mass Ready Act (S3064) by including the language from H5217 (sponsored by Rep. Hawkins) which would phase out the use of anticoagulant rodenticides statewide.
We want each of the 160 state representatives to receive at least 10 phone calls from their constituents. Together we have power. Let’s use it to advocate for a ban on anticoagulant rodent poisons across Massachusetts!

Saturday's event was an excellent opportunity to connect around fertility strategies through the lens of soil health, soil limitations, and supplementing with foliar sprays for plant health & protection.

The agroforestry setting is a great context for discussing soil stewardship and plant health because of their implementation overtime. has a new site on a beat up, degraded field - a prime example of remediation and stewardship over the long term. Key take away: understand your soil conditions and have a goal for your foliar spray!

Keep an eye out for future events on foliar sprays.

Looking back on April, stepping into May!

From the Mass Grange Ag Expo at Mount Wachusett Community College to the Boston Society of Landscape Architects (BSLA) Field Day at Harvard University, we’ve seen incredible energy around soil health.

A highlight was seeing our Education Director, Rubén Parilla, join Evan Abramson (Landscape Interactions) and Anna Gilbert-Muhammad (Pocasset Pokanoket Land Trust) on stage. Together, they explored Building Soil through Biodiversity—one of 16 inspiring workshops at BSLA’s Field Day at Harvard.

We’re carrying that momentum into International Compost Week-and you can help keep it growing:

A time of year that has us giddy (I accidentally typed diggy first, which is also true), and also our favorite alliteration: spring seedling sales season! After a record-setting winter, a new growing season begins. This is what we dream of in February: the first spring radishes; the return of farmers’ markets stocked with honey, local meats & cheeses and heirloom tomatoes; the meadows filling gradually with blossoms unfurling in the morning sun.

Farmers are seeing major impacts to their livelihood through ever-rising costs, and each year they maintain farm infrastructure, start seeds, and prepare fields months before proceeds arrive. One simple way to support our indispensable local food system is to purchase seedlings directly from farmers. When you visit farms for their seedling sales, ask about joining a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm share program. Along the way, you might meet new neighbors and find out how to get more involved
in your community this season.
