Continuous practice keeps our response skills sharp. Last week, your Florence volunteer firefighters teamed up with Stevensville Fire Department and Stevensville Rural Fire District for a joint school bus extrication drill. Practicing together ensures we're fully prepared whenever duty calls. 🚨

On Thursday Night, Aug. 27, Florence Fire units were dispatched to a reported house fire with a person trapped inside on Iowa Street. Fire units arrived shortly after dispatch and found a single family residence with smoke showing. Fire crews entered the dwelling and found a female victim in a room on fire. The victim was rescued from the structure and medical treatment was started on the patient. Sadly, all attempts to revive the victim were not successful and she passed away at the scene. The fire was quickly controled. Units from Stevensville, Missoula Rual and Three Mile Fire Districts assisted Florence fire units in the final control of the fire. Cause of the fire is under investigation. The Florence Rural Fire District would like to express our sincere sympathies and condolences to the victims family and friends.

Fire danger has been lowered to High due to cooler weather, all stage II fire restrictions have been canceled. Please continue to monitor all fires when outside as fuels remain dry.

INCIDENT UPDATE: Industrial Fire near Long Ave & Hwy 93 🚨

At 4:43 PM, firefighters responded to a reported fire at a forestry products facility near Long Avenue and Highway 93 in Florence.

Upon arrival, initial crews found an active fire burning in sawdust piles that was extending into nearby vegetation while threatening multiple structures, machinery, and inventory. Suppression efforts were started immediately alongside a request for mutual aid to help protect surrounding property and equipment.

Response Operations: A total of 19 units and 41 personnel from multiple surrounding departments responded to assist in containing the blaze.

Current Status: The main fire is contained. FRFD units will monitor hot spots and prevent rekindling throughout the night.

Florence Rural Fire District would like to thank all of our mutual aid partners for their assistance on this incident.

What an awesome day at the Stevensville Creamery Picnic Firefighter Games! 🚒

It was great getting together with neighboring departments, spending time with our community, and getting in some good, friendly competition.

A big thank you to the Stevensville Fire Department for hosting us and putting on a fantastic event.

Huge congratulations to Pinesdale Fire on taking 1st Place this year! 🏆 Outstanding work!

We also want to thank everyone who came out to cheer on all the crews and support local volunteer firefighters.

On Friday, August. 7, Stage II fire restrictions are in effect for Ravalli County.

As of July 30, 2026 fire danger in both Missoula and Ravalli County have been raised to VERY HIGH.

Very High fire danger means fires start easily from all causes and immediately spread fast. Small fires can quickly become large fires and exhibit extreme fire intensity. These fires can be difficult to control and will often become much larger and longer-lasting fires.
