The Flint Alliance for Immigrant Rights (FAIR) unites organizations, advocates, and community members across sectors to support, educate, and mobilize for the rights and dignity of immigrants in the Greater Flint region.

It is with heavy hearts that FAIR Coalition shares the loss of Pierre Damas Bel, who died by su***de on August 31st, 2026. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and everyone who loved him.

This tragic loss is a direct result of the Supreme Court stripping Haitian and Syrian immigrants of Temporary Protected Status in June. In July, immigration enforcement forced Pierre into an ankle monitor, humiliating him and making him feel like a criminal. He would be here today if not for the cruelty of stripping over a million people of their legal status.

We affirm our opposition to this policy and urge everyone to demand that your representatives provide real pathways and protections for TPS holders. Take action using the toolkit in our bio.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for our Reflections on Black Liberation event - facilitated by Robert White.

The program included an introduction into Black August, the legacy of George Jackson and the Attica uprising, and the principles of Study, Fast, Train, Fight.

After Robert’s lecture, we split up into small groups to read and reflect on questions: Why is it important to commemorate Black August? What parallels can we draw between the repression of Black organizers historically and the struggles movements face today? And where are we finding hope in the movement today?

Thank you to our incredible partners: the Sankofa Project, and the Arab American Heritage Council (AAHC) for making this event possible. Thank you to all who attend and gathering with us to learn, reflect, and recommit ourselves to the work ahead.

ICE arrests are surging and the Federal Government Is pouring billions into the expansion.

Recent reports show ICE arrests are more than doubling- reaching all time highs in almost every state. At the same time, $2.69 billion of our taxpayer money - that could fund healthcare and food assistance programs - is going to fund the deportation machine. Swipe to learn more.

Michigan’s immigrant communities are facing an escalating crisis. The loss of humanitarian protections, increased immigration enforcement, family separation, detention, and dangerous conditions inside immigration detention centers are placing thousands of people at risk.

We are asking immigrant-led, civil rights, faith, labor, environmental justice, legal, and community organizations to sign onto a letter calling on Governor Gretchen Whitmer and her administration to take immediate and sustained action.

Join us this Saturday, August 29 at the Neighborhood Engagement Hub for a continuation of our Black August lecture series!

This week’s lecture “REFLECTIONS ON BLACK LIBERATION” will be facilitated by FAIR Coaltion member Robert White.

Black August is a month of remembrance, study, reflection, and action that emerged in the late 1970s among incarcerated Black activists in California to honor the lives, struggles, and sacrifices of those who fought for Black freedom and self-determination. Today, many communities observe Black August as an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Black history while committing to ongoing work for justice and liberation.

A recap from last night’s August 22 teach-in. We want to thank Sankofa and the Arab American Heritage Council for your partnership in making this event possible. A special thank you to Delma Jackson III for the powerful presentation and discussion he led.

This education, this organizing, these connections, this love and care you see in the room it is exactly what helps us move from isolation to solidarity and from solidarity to collective action.
