The Flemington Science Collective is organized to promote social welfare by increasing public understanding of science and its role in everyday life and community decision-making in Flemington, New Jersey and surrounding areas. Our organization provides accessible, nonpartisan science education and engagement opportunities for residents of all ages, with particular attention to individuals and nei

ghborhoods that have limited access to high-quality STEM resources. We will carry out this purpose by organizing free or low-cost public programs such as community science nights, library-based discussion series, hands-on demonstrations, and citizen-science projects related to local issues (for example, environmental quality, technology in daily life, and appliance engineering). We will collaborate with schools, libraries, and community groups to make scientific information understandable and practical, helping community members interpret data, evaluate claims, and participate more confidently in public conversations that involve science

Long time, no post!

We're gearing up for our March 12 talk, from 7-9pm at the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, where we have been courteously invited by the The Flemington Lyceum Society to share about who we are, what we're doing, and then give various topic presentations. Antigen presentation and T cell activation are shown through the close interaction between an antigen-presenting cell (APC) and a CD4⁺ T cell. An antigenic peptide is displayed on MHC class II molecules on the APC surface and recognized by the T cell receptor, with the CD4 coreceptor reinforcing this binding. Effective activation requires an additional co-stimulatory signal, represented by the interaction between B7 on the APC and CD28 on the T cell. Chemokine receptors on the T cell are also highlighted, reflecting their role in guiding cell movement and signaling during immune responses. Together, these elements illustrate the coordinated molecular events necessary for proper CD4⁺ T cell activation.

First event is in the books! We had an engaging crowd of about 30 people who participated more than I initially expected, which was great! Some A/V issues were disruptive but most people really enjoyed themselves, and 10/30 filled out a short survey after the event. We're looking forward to planning our next talk and also starting to get everything together for our interactive science fair at the Flemington DIY in April. More details on that to come. Thanks to everyone who attended and participated!

Our first event is tonight at 7pm at the Hunterdon County Library on Rt 12 in Flemington, NJ! It will be in the meeting room on the first floor. We are excited to see everyone who can make it.

A few of you have reached out via our website at thesciencegroup.org, expressing interest in collaborating or helping out in some way - I'll thrilled to see this, and it proves that the urge is there to learn, engage, and build community around science. I'll respond to you this weekend!
