For several years now I have been working towards helping people who suffer from poverty by ensuring that they receive the resources they need to survive on the streets. My primary objective is to revitalize Denver urban neighborhoods and to repair what gentrification has destroyed. I plan to make a difference by hosting my first of many charity events to come. This first event taking place January 8th will be a community event catered to our houseless friends and family. On this Sunday, we will come together to help give away clothes, food, toiletries and other necessities as we invite our neighbors on the streets. For the past six months I have gathered donations for all homeless men, women, and children. I am committed to helping the homeless as so many of them have been displaced and alienated from the very communities in which they grew up in. I come to you today in an effort to collect donations (whatever that may look like) so that our neighbors can live as comfortable as possible in this unbearable winter weather. With the Denver Police Department doing street sweeps and finding ways to stigmatize and criminalize homelessness, many people have been robbed of their tents, sleeping bags, and other essentials. Doing this on my own has been a mission to say the least. While I have many boxes of clothes, I lack many essentials that I can’t get on my own. In order for this drive to be truly successful, I am still in search of the following:
Coats/Gloves/Scarves
Sleeping Bags
Shoes
First Aid Kits
More Toiletries (including feminine products)
Food for the event as well as non-perishable food for them to take with them
Water
And any other information/ resources that the homeless population can utilize. I would like to remind everyone that this is an open invitation for anyone who may need a pair of shoes, a warm jacket for the winter or a new outfit for interviews. Community outreach is needed now more then ever for this progressing city we call home. So come have a good time and get reacquainted with the community!
