Fire Island Pines has always sought to be a place of welcome for everyone. It has also benefitted from the work of LGBTQ+ activists across the country, some of whom have never set foot on its boardwalks.
Trailblazers Park, which honors LGBTQ+ pioneers—including women, people of color, transgender people, and other members of marginalized groups—is a public celebration of their contributions and a visible symbol of the community’s commitment to equality.
On May 23rd the Pines recognized its new Trailblazers with a celebration at the Pavilion. On June 21st at 11am at Whyte Hall ’s Committee on Black Equality will host a community conversation entitled “THEY’RE HERE” focusing on protest, protection and the art of community response.
The conversation will be moderated by Victor Jeffreys II (), and it will feature:
-Nile Harris (), a performer, director, and playwright
-Fran Tirado (*xuality), Editor in Chief of Them and organizer of the Annual Doll Invasion of the Pines
-Kei Williams (), CEO of New Pride Agenda ()
If you can, please join to reflect on our shared history and the ongoing work of building a community where everyone feels welcome. ()
