In July 2025, two US Veterans will embark on a 1,000km lifetime journey rowing unsupported across the Arctic Ocean to inspire other Veterans and others to dream the impossible possible.

UPDATE - We still have a ‘Reason’ but at the moment we won’t be that Freezin’ 😂😂😂🧊

To all our followers, supporters and everyone in the Ocean Row Community.

Given the ‘degree’ of complexity in the Arctic 🥶 we both created a strict training program and solid Team Charter.

Given my knee replacement doubled with hernia surgery, we had a short window to push in all our training. Given that I had a supportive Veteran Brother, and teammate we gave it a hard go.

Since we had a tight shipping schedule the weather at the time prevented us to get in our last block of training out in the Pacific Ocean, so both Owen and I agreed to pivot.

So I’m excited to announce that my beautiful Friend, Brother and fellow Veteran (Go Navy!!!) is setting out this week to attempt a Solo Row from Monterey, CA to Hawaii!!!!!

I so enjoyed every moment training in the cold with Owen, it bought us closer together and I believe that I built stronger rowing skills being with Owen in a pairs boat ❤️ And, I love Owen’s passion for the red, white and blue…. 🇺🇸

For me, i will cheer on my dear friend, and I’ll continue to train and will continue to work on a Gulf crossing this Fall and I will be announcing two amazing 2026 ‘Hometown’ rows.

We champion each other in Life… As I still will keep the Arctic Dream in my sights…

What a great training row!

•headwinds, crosswinds
•navigating two high traffic shipping lanes
•comms with vessel traffic’, usedof the fog horn
•maneuvered around cargo ships anchored off-shore
•heavy condensation, extreme dense sea fog
•caught in an eddy
•navigated in extreme low visibility.

Huge shoutout to on the accuracy of the nautical charts!

Huge shout to my row partner’s local knowledge. We really worked well together navigating with maybe an oar length of visibility Owen Gray

Ironically, I’m sitting at the San Diego Airport on a two-hour delay for foggy weather conditions.

FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON

Our Mission is becoming more active as in the last week of March we completed our 1st Training Session out in Lake Tahoe.

We learned so much on how the cold affects the body, mind, food, and the boat equipment. It was a very valuable experience together.

On April 7th, Owen and I will be traveling down to Redondo Beach, California and if weather conditions permit, we will row to San Diego, California.

FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON…

Last week conducted our pre-row inspection on the status of our Boat (LILY) and our ‘Lose Equipment.’

Our next upcoming goal is working toward 120-hours of team row training. Even though both Owen and I have completed two Transoceanic crossings, we want to practice as we never rowed an ocean.

As we are still following the strict safety guidelines of the .toughest.row and thank them for the years past of learning so much about Ocean Rowing.

Owen and I are striving to see each other the week of March 24, 2025.

CALLING ALL TEACHERS!!!

I’m so excited to announce that will be following our team to create a shared learning experience together we row unsupported on the Arctic 🥶 Ocean July 2025.

As 2025 is part of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation, we believe this would be a great and fun way to learn about the crucial role glaciers, snow, and ice play in our world’s ecosystem.

Glaciers are vital to regulating the Earth’s climate, providing freshwater to millions of people, and supporting unique ecosystems.

Not only are we rowing for two great charities and we also want to inspire others to dream the impossible possible and together we can learn how to help preserve these vital natural resources for future generations.

With less than 7 months until we attempt to row unsupported across the Arctic Ocean, winter training has begun.

Since the guys are geographically separated each will develop their home-grown training plan.

Part one of Owen’s Three-point Plan is rowing on his ERG (stationary rower) outside in temps that are in the 30-40 degree range.

Today Owen’s Row revealed that so much is yet to be learned.

We will share Owen’s other two parts of the plan over next couple of weeks as well as how is Paul training and rehabbing his knee and the overall team training.

Did you know that the Arctic Ocean is one of the least-rowed stretches of Ocean in the World 🌎

Less than 20-people have rowed the Arctic Ocean.

We will be challenged by cold temperatures, 24-hours of Sunlight, strong ocean conditions, just above freezing water temperatures and changing weather conditions.

As two Veterans we are ‘Freezin’ for a Reason.’

We are taking on this mission to inspire others to make the impossible possible.

We are rowing so no Veteran is on a waiting list for a Service Dog 🐕‍🦺 and that no person or families have to live with the hardships of Neurofibromatosis (NF).
