Happy Nationals Coaches Day!!!
One of the things we are most grateful for in the Gateway Region is the incredible group of coaches who give so much of themselves to our athletes and to our volleyball community.

On National Coaches Day, we want to take a moment to recognize the people who spend countless hours in gyms, at tournaments, planning practices, teaching fundamentals, encouraging athletes, and helping young people become the best version of themselves.

Coaches teach skills, build confidence, challenge athletes to grow, and help young people learn how to handle success, disappointment, pressure, teamwork, and perseverance.

The lessons taught in practices and matches often stay with athletes long after the final whistle. A great coach can help shape not only a better player, but a stronger, more confident person (hmmm after typing all of this I realize how lacking I am as a coach not a newsflash to any but myself I am fully aware).

To all of the coaches throughout the Gateway Region who invest their energy, patience, knowledge, and heart into their athletes — thank you.

Thank you for showing up.
Thank you for believing in your players.
Thank you for pushing them when they need it and encouraging them when they need it even more.
And thank you for helping grow the game we all love.

Your impact reaches far beyond the court. ❤️🏐

Gateway Region has been proud to be part of this initiative since its inception, and we’re especially proud to have hosted the largest Region-run Try Volleyball event in the country for the past two years!
We look forward to doing it again in 2027 and introducing even more kids to the sport we all love! 🏐

Celebrating the Leaders Behind Our Officials

During Officials Appreciation Week, Gateway Region Volleyball recognizes Augie Werner and Rachel Kirk for their leadership and dedication to developing our officiating community.

Augie, the region’s first Referee Chair, served several terms and established the standards, training, and foundation that shaped generations of referees in our region. Likewise, Rachel continued that legacy during her time as Chair before passing the torch to Ed Phillips this summer.

Both hold a deep love for the sport and remain active as officials and trainers continuing to support the sport and the community they helped build.

Thank you, Augie and Rachel, for your countless hours of service and lasting impact on Gateway Region Volleyball. We are grateful for all you continue to do for our officials and volleyball family!
