At United Gold Star Families, we understand that one phone call can change a family’s life forever.

While many people associate heart conditions with warning signs, the reality is that sudden cardiac arrest can happen without warning. That’s why education, awareness, and access to AEDs matter.

We encourage our community to read this important article shared by Lion Heart Heroes Foundation. Their work is helping families, schools, organizations, and communities better understand the importance of being prepared when seconds matter.

Knowledge saves lives. Training saves lives. AEDs save lives.

Please take a moment to read, learn, and share.

Together, we can help ensure more families never have to experience an unexpected loss.

Today, we are sharing a conversation that is important to many military and Veteran families.

As a Gold Star organization, our mission remains focused on honoring and supporting Gold Star Families. At the same time, we recognize that there are many paths of loss within our military community, and every family carries a story that deserves compassion and understanding.

The families behind the Green Star recognition movement have worked to bring visibility to those impacted by Veteran su***de. Whether people agree on the approach or not, we believe that listening to families and acknowledging their grief is important.

No family should feel invisible.

We encourage our community to read their story and learn more about the conversation taking place.

Laurie Finlayson reminds us that one determined person can change lives and move important conversations into action.

We are proud to share the work of our friends at the Lion Heart Heroes Foundation and the incredible leadership of Laurie Finlayson.

What began from one family’s loss has become a mission to increase awareness, strengthen advocacy, and help protect Military Families and communities through education and access to AEDs.

Keep Being Resilient and United Gold Star Families stand with organizations that turn grief into action and work to create lasting change. We are grateful for the partnerships and friendships that make this work possible and look forward to seeing this important effort continue to move forward in the Senate.

Please take a moment to watch the video and support their mission.

One of the most meaningful parts of Legacy & Laughter was watching families simply have space to exist together without needing to explain every part of their story.

Children laughing.
Conversations happening naturally.
People connecting through shared understanding, service, sacrifice, grief, resilience, and community.

These moments matter.

So many military-connected families carry heavy things quietly, and events like this are a reminder that healing and remembrance can exist alongside joy, connection, and support.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, volunteered, supported, and helped create a space where families felt welcomed, seen, and remembered.

Did you know?

Many people are familiar with Blue Star and Gold Star Families, but fewer know the ongoing conversations surrounding Green Star recognition for families impacted by veteran su***de.

As a Gold Star Mother, I deeply respect the long-standing Blue Star and Gold Star traditions, while also respecting efforts that seek to bring visibility, education, and support to families whose grief experiences have often remained unseen.

Behind every star is a family forever changed by service.

Different stories. Shared sacrifice. Every family matters. 🇺🇸💚

Sharing this educational post from Green Star Families of America because these conversations are important.

Many people are familiar with the Blue Star and Gold Star traditions, but questions often arise about the meaning and history behind military family service banners. 🇺🇸

💙 **Blue Star Service Banner**
The Blue Star Service Banner tradition began during World War I and represents a family with a loved one currently serving in the Armed Forces.

💛 **Gold Star Service Banner**
Traditionally, if a service member dies while serving our nation, the blue star is replaced with a gold star. Gold Star Families have long been recognized as families who have experienced the loss of a loved one in military service.

💚 **Green Star Families®**
Green Star Families of America was created to bring visibility, education, and recognition to the families left behind after a veteran dies by su***de. Support for H.R. 6022, the Green Star Veterans Service Act, seeks formal recognition of these families and their sacrifices.

You may also hear references to White Star, Silver Star, and other names. Some are used by organizations, awareness efforts, or specific causes, but not all are federally recognized military family service banner traditions.

We deeply respect and honor the long-standing Blue Star and Gold Star traditions and the families they represent. Green Star recognition is intended to build upon that legacy by bringing visibility to families impacted by veteran su***de whose experiences have often remained unseen.

Different stories. Shared sacrifice. Every family matters. 💚

As Memorial Day approaches, we gently invite our community to pause and remember the true meaning behind this day. For many, it is a long weekend. But for Gold Star Families, Memorial Day is deeply personal. It is a day that carries names, memories, love, sacrifice, and absence.

We are grateful to see organizations like TAPS continuing to help educate others with compassion and care. The way we speak about Memorial Day matters because remembrance matters.

To all those carrying the loss of someone who served and never came home — we remember with you.

Please take a moment this Memorial Day to speak their names, honor their stories, and carry their legacy forward.
