We are holding Andrew’s family, friends, and all who stood beside him in our thoughts today.

There are no words that meet the depth of a loss like this—only a quiet recognition of the love, the service, and the life that mattered deeply to so many.

To those closest to him, to those who served alongside him, and to those carrying memories that few others will ever fully understand—we see you. We stand with you.

We also recognize the weight that does not always show itself while someone is in uniform. The battles that follow, the ones that remain unseen, and the ones that too often go unanswered.

Today, we honor Andrew by holding space—for his life, for his people, and for the truth that this kind of loss reaches far beyond a single moment.

We will continue to carry that truth forward with care.

With respect and remembrance.

The world asks how your parents are doing. But who is asking about you?

When you lose a sibling, you lose your "parallel traveler". You lose the person who knew your past and was supposed to be part of your future. Too often, siblings are told to "be strong" for the rest of the family. Your pain gets minimized or overlooked, making you the "forgotten griever".

At TAPS, we see you. Your grief isn't secondary, and you don't have to carry it quietly.

If you want to learn more about sibling loss, view our recorded webinar with Dr. Heidi Horsley from the Open to Hope Foundation: https://www.taps.org/video/2021/sibling-loss

We’re thinking of all the spouses who are sitting at the table today missing a person.

We see you. We are you. Always in our hearts, forever on our minds.

The Love Lives On Act was marked up and unanimously passed out of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee last night! TAPS is proud to have stood alongside surviving families every step of the way in making this moment possible. This is the progress our families deserve. We will keep pushing until it crosses the finish line!

Thank you, Senator Jerry Moran, for leading the charge yesterday to ensure our surviving spouses will maintain benefits upon remarriage at any age. We look forward to seeing it on the full Senate floor soon!

Sgt Maj Cabrera is one of the first Marines at the School of Infantry-West, to get an ECG as part of Project ERASE (Electrocardiogram Risk Assessment to reduce Sudden cardiac Events). Project ERASE is a three-year pilot program of ECG screening to identify hidden life-threatening heart conditions among military recruits. Approximately one thousand Marines will be screened at Camp Pendleton this week and next. Lion Heart Heroes (lionheartheroes.org) suggested this pilot program in NDAA FY24. Semper Fi, Marines! What a perfect way to honor on his birthday!
