Somehow, followed us around while we hauled recycling . . . and they made it look beautiful.

This is curbside recycling in Southern West Virginia: cardboard, cans, plastics #1/ #2, squeaky wheels, and a growing number of people deciding the landfill does not need every single thing we touch.

Watch it. Share it. Sign up. Tell your neighbor. Especially the one with the suspicious number of Amazon boxes.

⛽ A quick Bud’s update:

Gas prices have gone up a lot since we started pickup service in 2025, and fuel has become one of the biggest costs of running routes each week.

Beginning 5/16, pickup members will see a temporary $1/month fuel surcharge.

We’ve kept it as small as possible, and it’s intended only to help cover increased fuel costs while prices remain high. It is not a permanent rate increase, and we’ll review it regularly and remove it when fuel prices come back closer to normal.

Thank you all for supporting local recycling and helping keep this little co-op rolling 💚

🎥 Casting call for Bud’s customers

Our friends at Understory Media are making a short video about Bud’s Recycling, and we’re looking for a few Bud’s customer or household who would be comfortable being filmed during a normal recycling moment.

Filming would happen on one of these dates: Wednesday, May 20, Friday, May 22, or Wednesday, May 27. Braiden from Understory will be filming, and Karen Lane may also be there taking photos.

Interested? Comment here or send us a DM and we’ll connect you with Braiden.

I know you’re still hoarding empty jam jars in the garage like they’re family heirlooms. It’s okay. We need to talk. I’m heading to Good News Fayette County to drop some actual knowledge on where your glass is going... and I’ve got news.

We finally nailed down the siting location in Oak Hill for that glass crusher we got the grant for. It's happening. No more guessing. Come hang out, ask your weird specific questions about bottle necks, and get the dirt on the new spot. See you at the New River Convention Center, Tuesday April 21st from 6-8 🥃 🔨

Stop throwing your soda cans in the trash like a medieval peasant. Seriously. Mining bauxite, the stuff they make "fresh" aluminum out of, is a literal disaster movie for the planet. It creates these massive lakes of caustic red sludge called tailings that just sit there being toxic and weird. Meanwhile, your crushed Mountain Dew can is basically a permanent resource. It’s the only material that’s infinitely recyclable without losing its soul. It takes 95% less energy to melt your old beer cans than it does to dig a giant hole in the earth and refine new ore. It’s the closest thing we have to magic and you’re burying it in a landfill next to your old sneakers. Rinse it, crush it, bring it to the bin. Don't make me come over there.

Look, I know. We've been ghosting the internet. Honestly? We’ve been busy. Turns out people actually like recycling when it doesn’t involve driving twenty miles to a bin that’s already overflowing with damp mattresses.

Anyway, big news while I was gone. The Hive WV gave us a trophy for "Social Enterprise of the Year." I tried to tell them we’re just two scrappy folks and a very tired dump truck, but they gave it to us anyway. It’s shiny. We’re keeping it.

More importantly: we finally crawled over the hill into Hico, Mount Lookout, and Victor. If you live out that way and you're still throwing your recycling in the woods or hoarding aluminum cans in your shed like a dragon, stop it. We’re officially picking up in your neck of the woods.

Go to the site. Hit the signup button. Let us deal with your junk so you can go back to yelling at the deer in your garden.

Calling all people who know people. Bud’s Recycling Co-op just got funding for a glass recycling pulverizer, and we’re hunting for a spot to put the equipment. The Town of Fayetteville recycling center doesn’t have adequate space to host it, so we’re looking for a small bay space elsewhere in Fayette County. Roughly 20x20, with a tall door (at least 12 feet) and ideally 3-phase power. If you’ve got space, know a landlord, or have a friend with an underused warehouse, please send us a message. Even a lead helps.
