Fayette Forward

It's important to us as an organization that our mission and work is clarified once again. ConnectFayette is a project of Fayette Forward partnering with Fayette County’s jurisdictions to facilitate and promote a connected network of trails and pathways linking population centers, schools, employment and retail centers, parks, and natural spaces to enhance the overall quality of life for Fayette County residents.

Decisions about where paths and trails may go are ultimately made by local governments. Decisions about planning, zoning, and property use are also made by local governments. High-density housing is a topic that falls outside the scope of the charge provided by our board, and outside the scope of the mission and vision of Fayette Forward.

Any statement, implication, or accusation to the contrary is simply inaccurate. It is our genuine desire to work together with all of Fayette County to improve the quality of life for its citizens.

We appreciate community interest in the ConnectFayette path system and want to address some recent claims that misrepresent the project and the university partnership behind it. The mission of Fayette Forward is to promote community development, economic growth, and quality of life for all Fayette County residents.

Fayette Forward is working with graduate students from Georgia Tech. Their role is to support the mission of Fayette Forward and make recommendations to our municipalities with identified areas adjacent to the proposed path system that would make good sites for new parks and open spaces.

In our initial meeting with the student cohort, we clarified the scope of work that differs from the syllabus. This collaboration is to be focused on green space, recreation, and community character, not the high-density urbanization described in the post now circulating. Suggestions that the project is a vehicle for undisclosed high-density, mixed-use development are simply inaccurate, and we want to be clear about that.

That does not define Fayette Forward's goals. Our objective remains consistent with everything we have said publicly: a connected, multi-use path that links jurisdictions while enhancing the quality of life that makes Fayette County special.

Preserving what residents value about Fayette County is exactly why this work exists, and we're committed to doing it transparently and in partnership with our communities.

The new Whitewater Creek Nature Area has been open for just over a week now.

Earlier this week we were able to take the Peachtree City Ladies Hiking Club on their first tour of the new nature area.

We talked about the mission and vision of Fayette Forward and how this park came to be, through a public-private partnership with Fayette County, GA, Government , Georgia Power, and Fayette Forward.
