On July 4, 2026, the Juneteenth Celebration Committee presented the Community Celebration Committee a check for $881. One of the core values of the Juneteenth Committee is to get back to the community that has given so much to the Juneteenth event. The Community Celebration Committee was the chosen charitable organization for the work they have been doing in the community to support youth and families in need by providing school supplies and backpacks each August.

Sunday, June 21 – BBQ Cook-Off
The second and final part of the celebration on Sunday was a spirited BBQ Cook-Off competition. Steve Curry, professional competitive cookoff champion was the coordinator of the event. Six contestants participated in the Rib and or Chicken contest. They were: FlyBy 5&240 (Joe Vaughn), Rev. Bill O’Neal, Jackman’s Smoke (Tim Jackman), Mac’s Atak (Micky and Brian McMillian), HoCo Smoke Show (Larry Lawson), and Jumpman BBQ (Ron Mitchell). The competitors braved the rain and put on a great, friendly show.

The independent judges were Krysta Cramer, Susan Keyton, and Allene Logan. They scored on appearance, taste, and tenderness. The winners of the competition:
- Ribs: FlyBy 5&240
- Chicken: Mac’s Atak

Families gathered after the community worship service for delicious food and fellowship, while reflecting on the enduring meaning of Juneteenth and the importance of building bridges within our community.

We thank the contestants as well as our coordinator and judges. And special thanks to Peggy O’Connell, who helped out at the grill.

Sunday, June 21, 2026, was the final day of the 26th annual Fayette Juneteenth Celebration. The day started off with a community worship service that relocated from Downtown to Linn Memorial Church due to rain. Bishop Lester Woods, Jr. was guest speaker and joined by his choir. It it was an amazing, uplifting service were several local churches participated.

A core value of the Juneteenth Celebration Committee is to give back - invest back into the community, who has invested so much in us. The offering collected at the service was gifted to the Community Celebration Committee, which has served local families for years through its annual school supply giveaway each August.
