When brands or media include BIPOC, LGBTQ+, or disabled characters only as sidekicks or stereotypes, it reinforces harm instead of healing.

True representation is multidimensional, complex, and created with the communities it reflects. Here are a few ways to get it right:

1️⃣ Include BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and disabled people in the creation – not just the cast. Hire them as writers, directors, and decision-makers – not just background characters.

2️⃣ Tell the full, nuanced story. Move beyond stereotypes. Show our joy, struggles, culture, and complexity – not just trauma or tropes.

3️⃣ Reflect diversity across roles. Representation means showing marginalized folks as leaders, lovers, heroes, and experts – not always sidekicks or villains.

So many BIPOC professionals are expected to code-switch – altering how they speak, dress, or express themselves to fit into dominant workplace culture.

But inclusion means changing systems, not people.

In rural areas, conversations around race, justice, and inclusion can feel harder to start – but that makes them even more important.

BIPOC residents in predominantly white spaces often face isolation, microaggressions, and systemic barriers with fewer support systems.

If you live in a rural or majority-white area, you can be the one to speak up, learn more, and build safer spaces.

Body positivity isn’t about trends – it’s about truth.

Every body is worthy. Every shape deserves respect. And yet, so many people face stigma in health care, hiring, fashion, and everyday life. Body positivity means unlearning harmful standards and making space for joy, dignity, and visibility at every size.

Disability isn’t something to fix – it’s something to understand.

From neurodivergent thinkers to Deaf creators to mobility advocates, disabled communities are pushing us to redesign systems that were never built for all. Check out the tips below to learn how to be an advocate!

1️⃣ Use inclusive language
Say "disabled people" or "people with disabilities" and avoid euphemisms like "special needs."

2️⃣ Make access the default
Add alt text, captions, and accessible formatting to your content without being asked.

3️⃣ Listen to lived experience
Amplify disabled voices, creators, and activists; don’t speak over them.

4️⃣ Challenge ableism everywhere
From casual jokes to inaccessible events, speak up when exclusion shows up.

5️⃣ Push for structural change
Advocate for policies that ensure housing, education, health care, and employment access for all.

Another tragedy on the timeline? Don’t scroll past.

When headlines hit hard, it’s okay to feel overwhelmed – but it’s also a moment to show up. Here’s how to support communities impacted by current events (without burning out):

1. Amplify their voices.

2. Donate if you can.

3. Rest so you can return.

Response starts with reflection.

Food is history. Food is resistance. Food is identity.

We want to spotlight Indigenous food sovereignty – how Native communities are preserving ancestral knowledge, reclaiming land, and restoring health.

Be sure to support Indigenous-led food initiatives, like Tee’s Tacos right here in Fargo!

Barriers don’t always look like walls. Sometimes, they show up as unpaid internships, inaccessible hiring platforms, or school policies that punish neurodivergent kids.

We want to break down how systems often exclude by design and want to see what equity-driven redesign can look like. Click the link below to learn more about how to push back on these barriers.

Inclusion isn’t just being invited into the room – it’s being heard once you’re there. Representation without respect isn't progress. True inclusion means power-sharing, listening, and reshaping systems so that everyone can thrive.

What does meaningful inclusion look like to you?

Rest is not a reward. It’s a right.

In a world that glorifies grind culture, choosing rest – especially for BIPOC and marginalized folks – is a radical act. Here are some ways to protect your rest and model boundaries: https://bit.ly/4652Ix3
