You did it! You gave a crap and raised the funds needed to build bathrooms and kitchens at Familia Ndani Ya Familia Orphanage, Hope Orphanage, and Jubilance Orphanage. We can’t wait to share photos of the completed construction with you. Thank you to everyone who participated—and to the Kevin Myers Family Foundation for matching the funds to make this project possible. Asante Sana! Thank you for giving a CRAP! We’re making great progress providing toilets and kitchens for the children at Familia Ndani Ya Familia, Hope, and Jubilance Orphanages. All eight toilets have been fully sponsored and are nearly complete—soon we’ll be painting the donors’ names. We’re already more than one-third of the way to our $15,000 goal to finish the remaining bathrooms and build a Sara’s Kitchen at each orphanage. Don't forget that all donations will be matched by the Kevin Myers Family Foundation. If you haven’t yet had a chance to “Give a Crap,” please use the link below.

When we traveled to Tanzania in October to visit and work on our projects, we learned that new government regulations now require all orphanages to have separate toilets for boys and girls, as well as kitchens that are detached from living quarters. Many of the orphanages we support have been doing the best they can with limited resources—often sharing a single bathroom and cooking over a wood-burning fire pit. We knew we had to help.

Familia Ndani ya Familia Orphanage (“Family Within Family”), Hope Orphanage, and Jubilance Orphanage have an urgent need for upgraded kitchens and bathrooms. Collectively, these facilities serve nearly 100 children.

The estimated cost to construct two bathrooms and one kitchen at each orphanage is $10,000, for a total project goal of $30,000. While ambitious, this goal is achievable through a matching grant from the Kevin Myers Family Foundation. With this support, all donations will be matched dollar for dollar, reducing the required fundraising amount to $15,000. Contributions of any size will directly support essential supplies, including sanitation and cleaning materials. Donations may be made in honor or memory of an individual, with acknowledgments listed on our website.

In 2019, the Can You Give A Crap? campaign successfully funded toilet construction at NASA Nursery School. This year, we are again offering naming opportunities for bathroom stalls. A $500 donation allows donors to select a name to be displayed above a stall door.

Funds raised will also support Sara’s Kitchen, our program to build a kitchen with an attached dining hall at each orphanage—creating a safe, healthy place for meals and community.

We hope you can GIVE A CRAP and help us help children who have so very little. https://www.scottslegacy.com/can-you-give-a-crap

EVENERATE ORPHANAGE

Madam Evalyne Maliaki cares for 67 children at her orphanage. When we arrived in October we were able to refill the toybox in memory of John Kirsch. The children were thrilled with the toys and we were thrilled to see how wonderfully they share with each other.

Madam Evalyne’s most urgent request was that we double the current amount of food that we had been delivering and add sugar. After seeing the hearty appetites of the children, we certainly understood her needs.

She also requested that we help her put glass in two doors and two windows in order to meet government standards.

We assured her that we would be able to honor all of her requests for which she was very grateful. What we take for granted, adequate food and secure doors and windows, was so important to her. Thanks to all of you who support us, you can rest assured that the children will go to bed with full bellies in a room that is safe and warm.

This week all the glass requested was installed and now Evenerate meets all government standards. And, plenty of food was delivered, including sugar. Thanks to our partner on the ground, Kundael, for making this happen.

Our team of four just returned home from a trip to Tanzania to check on our projects and visit with the people your generosity has helped. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing with you the places we visited and the people who inspire us to continue the legacy created in Scotty's honor. Today we share with you the story of TRUEHEART ORPHANAGE.
We met with Madam Vivian who is caring for 20 children. While her needs are great, she asks for so little. Her primary concern at this time is being able to pay rent so that she can continue to care for her children. Her rent is $82 a month ($984 for the year).
Another great concern for her is education as she understands it is the only way out of poverty. She currently has 11 of her children attending school and they are in need of uniforms. A lady in the village can completely outfit a child for $21 ($231). Finally, she asked if we could help pay $4 a week for firewood so she can cook for the children. She is currently cooking over a fire. We will be able to provide her with a 2 burner Stove that runs on used cooking oil. The oil is cheaper than purchasing wood and much more efficient ($280).
Madam Vivian was already part of our Beans & Bread Program and will continue to receive food on a monthly basis. Barbara Hock, Scott's grandmother, has graciously offered to cover the entire cost of Trueheart's needs. Asante Sana.

After traveling for over 29 hours we finally landed in Tanzania Thursday at 7:30 am.
With a brief stop at our hotel to check in and pick up supplies our first stop was a 3 hr ride to NASA Nursery School. We are the school’s only outside support.
We met with community leaders in Sara’s Kitchen which we built in 2024. We refilled a Connor’s Toy Box and distributed Beau’s Bundles to moms with new babies. Each student received a gift bag. We are putting the final touches on two wonderful projects: A playground funded by MAI Capital staff from Marriottsville, Md and a greenhouse/garden funded by the students at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Kingsville, MD. We hope to update you on those 2 projects later this month. Asante Sana from Tanzania!

They made it! Thank you to Dave Bransfield and Ricky from In-Time Shipping in Valley Stream, NY who DONATED their time and services to ship the supplies everyone purchased through our Amazon Gift Registry for our upcoming trip to Tanzania. All 31 boxes were picked up by our partner, Kundael Molla, in Tanzania and are awaiting our arrival next week for distribution to the children who desperately need them. When we started the Scott Willis Legacy Foundation 8 years ago, we were told that supplies shipped to Africa rarely reach their destination. In-Time Shipping makes it happen every time and we are forever grateful for their support. Asante Sana Dave & Ricky! Your efforts will bring smiles to so many children.

Thank you to everyone who purchased items from the Scott's Legacy Wish List. If you haven't received a thank you note, text or call, please reach out to us at [email protected] and let us know. Several of the boxes came without donor information. We converted the "wish list" to a "registry" so we have access to donor names for future purchases. Thanks again and if you still want to donate, we would appreciate it. Supplies are being packed and shipped at the end of this month. Asante Sana

We wish, we wish, upon another Amazon list

A small planning team from the Scott Willis Legacy Foundation is traveling to Tanzania, Africa on October 1, 2025. As part of the trip we will be delivering supplies to orphanages, schools, villages, and hospitals. We will be distributing shoes collected by Boys Latin School of Maryland and Notre Dame Preparatory. As we travel through small villages, we will be giving out soccer balls decorated with messages from children here in the Maryland. The people we serve live in extreme poverty.

We will be shipping these items in July with the help once again from our partner, David Bransfield at In-Time Shipping. We will be restocking Mike Squared Sports at Mama Jane's as well as 19 Connor's Toy Boxes at the Orphanages that are currently part of our Beans and Bread Program. We will be handing out Beau's Bundles to Moms and babies and school supplies to children.

Please take a few minutes to view our Wish List for items such as: soccer balls, diapers and school supplies.

After you shop, please select "Scott's Legacy" on list of addresses, which automatically ships your items to us. Please put in the "gift receipt" section your name so we can properly thank you and include it in your year-end tax receipt. If it's easier, just forward us your confirmation email to [email protected]

Because of your kindness, we continue to provide monthly food deliveries through our Beans & Bread Program to orphanages and a special needs school. We hope you take time to look at the smiles on the faces of the children whose lives you've changed. We couldn't do this without the help of our partner on the ground in Tanzania - Kundael Molla of Bushwide African Safaris. A special thank you to St. Paul's Lutheran School in Kingsville, MD who continues to partner with Scott's Legacy to change the lives of children a world way. Go Eagles!

We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who helps Scott's Legacy continue. Our "Beans and Bread" program is now providing food to 19 orphanages and 2 schools on a monthly basis. The people we serve are amazing as evidenced by the Matron of Bethlehem Orphanage. At this month's delivery she said she still had maize left from last month so we should share her delivery with an orphanage who might need it more. We know that Scott is looking down from heaven with his crooked smile at all the children your kindness and generosity help. Asante Sana (thank you in Swahili). https://www.scottslegacy.com/beans-bread-food-program
