Our August Yard of the Month winner, 401 King Street, is a true labor of love.

Around every corner, Bill Davis has created another beautiful display of color. Bill has cared for this home since 1982, and his love of gardening shows.

For decades, Bill proudly owned Harvey’s Farm Market, where generations of local residents purchased annual flowers and hanging baskets which went on to brighten homes throughout the village.

Congratulations, Bill! Neighbors and friends nominated him again and again over the summer and we've had our eye on these blooms for weeks. We’re grateful to celebrate the beauty he continues to bring to our community.

One of the core components of the America in Bloom program, that the FHODC was established to implement, is Urban Forestry. Two of our board members also serve on the Village Tree Commission and have worked closely with both groups to support and advance the health and vitality of our urban forest. Last week the village was proud to host the ODNR Tree Commission Academy at the VFW. There were 7 individuals from our community who took this 2-day class and will be taking the follow up 2-day sophomore class in September. Thanks to all of them for their commitment and volunteerism to better Fairport Harbor.

🌳 Members of Village Council and the Fairport Harbor Tree Commission recently attended the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Tree Commission Academy - Freshman Course.

The Tree Commission Academy is a four-class series that helps local volunteers and decision-makers learn the fundamentals of urban forestry and understand their role in managing and protecting community tree resources. We appreciate their commitment to preserving and enhancing Fairport Harbor’s urban forest! 🌳💚

Hey Fairport Harbor! You're Invited!

Bloom with Us: Summer Spruce-Up
Date: Tuesday, June 30
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Meet in front of Village Hall

Join us as we get downtown ready for the July 4th weekend! We want to put our best foot forward and shine as bright as the fireworks!

Help deadhead planters and tidy up green spaces throughout the downtown area as we give everything a quick refresh ahead of the holiday.

Bring your gloves (and snippers if you have them) and be ready to get your hands a little dirty.

If you can stick around afterward, join us for some live music at the Lyric to wrap up the evening. Jess says she'll have a special botanical cocktail or mocktail available that night! https://www.fhodc.org/events

As part of our America in Bloom initiatives, we wanted to look at Veteran's Park to see if it met the criteria to also be designated an arboretum. We partnered with the Village of Fairport Harbor Tree Commission to work with our Urban Forester Consultant Alan Siewart and spent Satirday morning walking the park to ID every tree, There were 20+ species identified and it was a great educational experience! We noted trees that need removed due to death or are dead, and potential species to add to the park. Grateful for those residents who joined our walk!
