Want to protect farmland in your community?

Are you a municipal representative, municipal staff, or involved in community land use decisions? Connect with SRPEDD, OCPC, and Wildlands Trust to help support farmland protection efforts in your community!

The Southeastern Regional Economic Development District (SRPEDD), Wildlands Trust (WT), and Old Colony Planning Council (OCPC) are partnering to help protect valuable and vulnerable Chapter 61A farmlands in the SRPEDD and OCPC region of southeastern MA by working directly with municipalities to support the use of farmland protection tools.

Municipal representatives and staff can work directly with project partners to identify barriers to farmland protection, learn about farmland protection tools, and facilitate the use of farmland protection tools in their community.

Project offerings include:
β€’ Webinars on Chapter 61A and Right of First Refusal
β€’ Technical assistance on municipal preparedness for land acquisition
β€’ Municipal training on Chapter 61A
β€’ Education on zoning and planning tools that reduce farmland loss
β€’ Using Community Preservation Act funds for Chapter 61A lands

Webinar dates and registration links will be posted through this platform, as well as announcements about opportunities for in-person municipal consulting and technical assistance.

"What is SRPEDD?"

Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District -- one of 13 regional planning agencies in Massachusetts. SRPEDD serves 27 municipalities in southeastern MA.

"Why are you organizing community engagement workshops?"

This is about the future of your community. We are working with Town of Fairhaven officials, the HMP Committee, and the OSRP Committee to develop two important planning publications. A Hazard Mitigation Plan is valid for 5 years, and an Open Space and Recreation Plan is valid for 10 years. To complete our writing work, we need to incorporate local perspectives. These two roadmaps will unlock grant funding opportunities for the Town when they are fully complete and approved.

Come join us and be part of the planning process. We want to hear your thoughts.
