The Chris Atwood Foundation Saving lives and supporting recovery with free peer support, harm reduction services and naloxone.

The Chris Atwood Foundation began in 2013 after the Atwood family lost their son and brother, Chris, to an accidentally fatal heroin overdose. He passed away at age 21, following a 6 year battle with addiction. The CAF is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that strengthens the addiction recovery movement through education, stigma reduction, and recovery support services. We do this through:

- Educ

ating the public about the disease of addiction

- Training the public how to administer naloxone to reverse an opioid overdose

- Increasing public access to recovery and harm reduction resources

- Supporting recovery communities on college campuses

- Stigma-reducing educational presentations

- Scholarships to local Recovery Houses

- Advocating for public policy changes that promote recovery

The energy at the LSH 5K Run for Recovery was unmatched, but the real highlight was seeing our very own Willie in action!

Willie was on the ground delivering essential, life-saving Narcan training—reminding us that recovery thrives on community, education, and mutual support. 🤝✨

In this video, Mark Atwood reflects on just how far the Chris Atwood Foundation has come — from its earliest days to the growing, life-changing impact we’re making across our community today. 💙

It’s a reminder that every step forward has been built by people who believe in recovery, connection, and hope.

If this mission resonates with you, we invite you to be part of it. Get involved, support the work, or make a donation to help us continue expanding access to recovery support and saving lives.
Together, we can go even further.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Lyn Tomlinson, our Transition Chief, who has been a monumental supporter of our mission. A Vienna native, Lyn began her career with the Fairfax-Falls Church CSB in 1994, eventually retiring as the Deputy Director of Clinical Operations.
Following her retirement, she brought her expertise to the CAF Board of Directors. Her decades of experience in mental health and substance use services have been invaluable to us during this season of growth. Thank you, Lyn, for your unwavering dedication to the peer community!

🎉 EAT • PLAY • WORK at the Chris Atwood Foundation 🎉
Our team had an incredible time at Dave & Buster’s for a much-needed day of connection, laughter, and fun together. 💙

A huge thank you to the Northern Virginia Health Foundation for providing the grant that made this team-building event possible. Investing in workplace satisfaction and team connection helps us continue showing up stronger for the communities we serve every day.

We’re so grateful for opportunities like this that allow our staff to recharge, connect, and celebrate the important work being done across CAF!

We’re excited to share that Beth Cline has been promoted to Interim Director of Programs at the Chris Atwood Foundation! 🎉 Many in our community already know Beth as a Region 2 Year of the Peer winner and one of the top peer educators in the state. Her passion, leadership, and commitment to the peer movement have made a lasting impact at CAF and throughout the recovery community.

In her new role, Beth will oversee our recovery initiatives including Chris’ Place, the Recovery Community Center, the mobile unit, and our housing program. We’re so grateful for her dedication and can’t wait to see all she accomplishes in this next chapter.

Please join us in congratulating Beth and celebrating her continued impact! đź’™
