Virginia Task Force 1 is a renowned domestic and international disaster response resource, sponsored by the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Dept. With approximately 200 specially trained urban search and rescue personnel, Virginia Task Force 1 has expertise in the extraction of victims from collapsed structures destroyed in natural or man-made catastrophic events.

Join us as Virginia Task Force 1 members tell real life stories of their experiences saving lives responding to U.S. and worldwide disasters.

Cost: $15 per person (lunch & program)

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University (OLLI Mason) is hosting its first-ever OLLI Ideas Festival on May 8-9, 2026, to introduce adults age 50+ to its diverse educational, social, and cultural programs.

In conjunction with Older Americans Month, attendees will enjoy free classes and special events that provide a sampling of all that OLLI Mason has to offer, including art, music, history, finance, humanities, poetry, yoga and tai chi, along with general fun and games. Over the course of 2 days, participants can engage in up to 19 educational classes, demonstrations, activities and discussions on OLLI Mason’s Fairfax Tallwood campus. Although festival events are focused on 50+ adults, all members of the public are welcome – and with free programs (and free parking), the OLLI Ideas Festival is a great way to explore the benefits of learning for life!
