Crew 1000 had a great time learning about winter survival and camping. Thank you to Jon Doty, Troop 42, and the Northern Warfare Training Center for teaching our scouts about arctic survival! Four intrepid youth braved their improvised shelters and woke up warm on a -7 morning. 11th Airborne Division Scouting America, Midnight Sun Council Scouting America

Ice Climbing Sunday 22 Feb at 2 p.m. at UAF. Meet at the yurt, which is between the ice climbing tower and the Student Rec Center building (where the inside wall is located). Plannin on 1.5 hours, about 15-20 minutes of which is getting geared up.

Clothing: warm clothes, gloves, and beanie thaty will fit under a helmet. The puffy jacket, shell, and some sort of insulated soft or harshell pants work well. Long underwear underneath. Bring warmer clohtes for when you are not climbing (think layers). Think what you might wear and bring with you if cross country skiing. Hand warmers are also a good idea.

Bring water and snacks.

The stove will be on in the yurt to warm up as needed.
