With the support of Explore Fairbanks partners renewing for 2025 and a funds match from Explore Fairbanks, we recently presented Nutrition Services - Fairbanks School District with a check for $3,350.
Here’s a little behind the scenes look from Director of Nutrition Services, Amy Rouse.
Number of elementary students fed daily: 2,000 made possible with warehouse staff making approximately 140 scheduled drop offs per week.
Current debt amount after meal service on December 9 was $6,200. Every Friday, with the use of donated funds, negative account balances are addressed.
Food waste prevention is accomplished by each school having a share area. These areas are for food items that students don’t want to eat. This keeps food from going into the garbage and gives other students the opportunity for food at no cost. Any cooked items that are left at the end of service are donated to the Community Food Bank.
100% of all donated dollars go toward resolving meal debt. No money donated goes to cover administrative costs.
