Congratulations to our newest Eagle Scout Kailey B.!

Kailey organized a collection drive for the Resource Center for Parents and Children. The project collected over $5,000 worth of diapers, wipes, and other personal products for people in need, with an additional $1,500 in cash for the Resource Center.

Welcome from new UA President Matt Cooper đź‘‹

"Welcome to another academic year! It’s an honor to have been selected to lead this institution.

I am grateful to the University community for your strength, resilience, and dedication as I begin my work as the University of Alaska’s 18th president. The success of our University rests on all of our shoulders.

I'm excited to be back at UA and to support and advance our shared mission of inspiring learning, and advancing and disseminating knowledge through teaching, research, and service, with an emphasis on the Arctic and its people.

I look forward to getting to know many of you over the coming weeks and months.

Thanks for all you do for our institution and Alaska."

I am sure that you have all heard about the fire in Tok by now. The community is in a bad position. A number of structures have been lost, there are a number of hot spots, and the winds are strong.

A plan was put in place for those needing shelter, food, and supplies. There are facilities in Tok and Delta Junction, that are providing help through various means, including drop off points for donations and shelter. In the Fairbanks area, donation items can be dropped off at Black Gold Transport in North Pole (confirmed via a phone call). Attached is a list of items requested, if you are able to donate.

Please keep the community of Tok in your prayers and thank you for any help you can provide.

Scouting U has been working recently with the National Cub Scouting Committee and the National Venturing Committee to update the requirements for the Scouter's Key, the Scouter's Training Award, and the Den Leader Training Award.

Check them out to see if you have earned one of these awards and/or to see if there are other leaders in your unit who should be recognized.

Introducing our newest council strip, featuring the Snowy Owl, sometimes called the Ghost of the Arctic, among other names. They nest primarily on the ground and the number of eggs laid depends on how abundant food is. The mother owl takes care of the eggs, while the father feeds the mother during this time. The snowy owl is the second largest owl of North America, weighing 3 to 6 pounds. They have a wingspan of over 4 feet. They can rotate their heads 270 degrees and live up to 30 years. Males are typically more white than females.

Order yours today by contacting the Scout Shop at 907-452-1976. Cost is $7.50 per patch and limited in number.
