🎉 Exciting News from the SWIRE Team! 🎉

We are proud to announce Casey Snyder has completed additional specialized training and is now certified as a Certified Peer Recovery Coach Associate – Domestic Violence Support Specialist (CPRC A-DVS) through ICAADA.

This additional credential means Casey has advanced training to support individuals who have experienced or been impacted by domestic violence, helping them navigate recovery, safety, healing, and rebuilding their lives.

At SWIRE, we believe recovery is about more than substance use—it’s about addressing the real-life challenges people face when they return to the community. Domestic violence and relationship trauma are often deeply connected to cycles of incarceration, addiction, and instability. Having staff trained in this area allows us to provide more informed, compassionate, and effective peer support to the people we serve.

Casey’s dedication to learning and growing in her role strengthens our entire program and helps ensure that participants have access to the specialized support they need to move forward.

Please join us in congratulating Casey on this achievement! 👏💙

Compassion fatigue vs. healthy detachment…super important stuff!! ❤️

In peer support, we care deeply — it’s part of who we are.
We sit with people in pain. We hold hope when they can’t. We listen, encourage, advocate, and show up again and again.
But there’s an important difference between compassion fatigue and healthy detachment.
🧠 Compassion fatigue looks like:
Feeling emotionally drained or numb
Losing patience more quickly
Carrying other people’s trauma home with you
Feeling guilty when you take time for yourself
Dreading calls, texts, or sessions you used to feel passionate about
🌿 Healthy detachment looks like:
Caring without carrying
Supporting without rescuing
Staying grounded in your role
Knowing their recovery belongs to them
Being able to rest without shame
Peer work is powerful… but it’s also real work.
And burnout isn’t a badge of honor.
let’s normalize something just as important as helping others:
✨ protecting the helpers ✨
Because when peers are well, peer support stays strong.

Jonathan and Ben. 💛

Two more SWIRE participants who are out in the community and doing well — and choosing something different.

Both men voluntarily entered sober living after release. No court order. No mandate. Just a decision to create structure, accountability, and space to build something new.

These are two men who have been counted out and bet against by the system for most of their lives. Labeled. Written off. Assumed to fail.

But today, they’re showing up. They’re putting in the work. They’re staying connected. They’re choosing growth over old patterns.

That’s what “Brand New” means.

It doesn’t mean perfect.
It doesn’t mean easy.
It means choosing, again and again, to move forward.

We see you, Jonathan and Ben. And we’re so proud of the way you’re rewriting your stories.

BUY ONE. GIVE ONE.
START TWO BRAND NEW STORIES.

When you buy a “Brand New” shirt, you’re not just getting one for yourself —
your purchase pays for a shirt for a SWIRE participant walking out of jail and starting their journey.

👕 You wear Brand New
👕 Someone else wears Brand New on day one

For someone leaving incarceration, a clean, new shirt means dignity, belonging, and the reminder that this chapter can be different.

We sold 8 shirts in the first 48 hours, and the momentum is still there — we just need you.

✨ Already have your shirt?
Drop a photo of you wearing it in the comments and help us show what community support looks like.

Today we’re celebrating Mikey and Perry, two SWIRE participants who were recently released from the jail to the OASIS Program at the Evansville Rescue Mission, stepping into a brand new chapter, and literally wearing it.

Mikey was referred to SWIRE by his family on the very day he was scheduled to be released. He had nowhere to go and needed the basics: clothes, shoes, and recovery support. What he also needed—connection—showed up right on time. Since his release, Mikey has continued to reach out for peer support, staying connected and asking for help as he navigates hard moments and new challenges. That willingness to stay engaged speaks volumes about his commitment to moving forward.

Perry had been working with our peer coaches in the jail since December. Since his release, he has shown up for his recovery with intention, humility, and perseverance. He has faced barrier after barrier and met each one with a level of grace and patience that’s rare—especially for someone brand new in his journey. He didn’t just say he wanted a new way to live. He proved it.

These two men are the reason behind our “Brand New” shirts. Recovery is about more than change—it’s about identity, dignity, and being seen as who you are becoming, not who you were.

Watching people come alive again never gets old.
This is why we do what we do. 🤍

Thank you, Mikey and Perry, for trusting us with your stories—and for reminding all of us what hope in action looks like.

🤝 Partnership Announcement 🤝

SWIRE is proud to announce a new partnership with Safe Haven REC-Evansville to provide wraparound peer support services for individuals reentering the community from the Vanderburgh County Jail.

Reentry is about more than release—it’s about connection, stability, and support. Through this partnership, participants will have access to coordinated peer support both inside the jail and in the community, helping bridge the critical gap that so many people face in the days and weeks after release.

By working together, SWIRE and Safe Haven REC are strengthening continuity of care—connecting people to peer support, recovery resources, and a community that understands the challenges of reentry and walks alongside them through it.

This collaboration reflects a shared belief: people succeed when they are supported, not just supervised. We’re grateful for this partnership and their commitment to recovery-oriented, peer-led services right here in Evansville.

More to come—we’re just getting started. 💙🌱
