What another beautiful day! We visited some sweet families yesterday, and two of the three were teenagers. While we go out to bless others, our choir is always blessed by the courage and love of the families we stand in the front yard with.
We saw so many laughs, smiles, and happy tears from people battling one of the hardest things they may ever face in life. Through it all, they continue showing us strength, hope, and courage. They are still smiling through it.
Yesterday, after singing Psalm 23, the words stuck out just a little bit differently. A friend sent me an article that dissected Psalm 23 a little deeper, and I thought I would pass some of it along.
For those who may not know, Psalm 23 is the song we sing on the doorsteps of those impacted by cancer each month.
âThe Lord is my shepherdâŚâ
âHe leads me beside still watersâŚâ
Sheep were afraid of rushing water because their heavy wool could pull them under. A shepherd would lead them to calm water where they could safely rest and drink.
âHe restores my soulâŚâ
A shepherd would search for sheep that wandered away and carry them back home safely.
âYour rod and your staff, they comfort meâŚâ
The staff was used to guide and rescue sheep, while the rod was used to protect them from danger.
âYou anoint my head with oilâŚâ
Shepherds would pour oil over wounds and protect sheep from insects and infection.
Psalm 23 was never just beautiful words.
It was a picture of comfort, protection, guidance, and presence.
Every month, we gather on doorsteps to remind families that even in difficult seasons, they do not walk alone. đŠľ
âSurely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my lifeâŚâ
