The Ben Moody Foundation

The Ben Moody Foundation honors Ben’s legacy by educating the public on the benefits of skateboarding for positive mental and physical health.

We also provide resources for healing and support for survivors of su***de loss. The Ben Moody Foundation was established in June of 2023 by Ben’s family. Ben passed away by su***de in March of 2022 at the age of 17. Ben was a pillar of the skateboarding community in Eugene. Oregon, and was known for his goofy personality, his desire to always go big, and effortless skating style. He never hesitated to cheer on a newcomer, or if you were trying to learn a new trick he was rooting for you. The one thing that was a constant source of stability, creativity, strength, and community for Ben was skateboarding. It meant everything to him. He often struggled with anxiety, and social situations, but he could go to any skatepark in any city and find a home there. We believe Ben’s life, and his death has taught us so much about taking care of each other. We know his light is still so big that it will continue to heal our community and beyond. Our Mission

Support for Su***de Loss Survivors
Su***de loss support group for youth that encompasses group art, outings, exercise, skateboarding, and many other activities. Support group for parents bereaved by su***de loss. Care packages for newly bereaved su***de loss survivors that offer resources, healing, and support.

The Ben Moody Foundation is looking for someone with an interest in nonprofit finance to join our team.

We currently have two ways to get involved:

Treasurer — Voting Board Position
A leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys financial oversight and would like to be part of
our Board of Directors. The Treasurer helps provide financial stewardship, reviews financial
reports and budgets, and works alongside the board to ensure the Foundation’s resources are being used responsibly and intentionally.

Volunteer Accountant / Finance Advisor — Non-Voting Position. A great option for someone with accounting, bookkeeping, QuickBooks, or financial experience
who would like to support the Foundation’s financial systems without serving as a voting board
member.

Why The Ben Moody Foundation?
We are a grassroots, growing nonprofit with a very personal mission: honoring Ben’s legacy by
building community through skateboarding and creating connections and access to mental wellness resources. We nurture hope through opportunities for remembrance and shared experience for individuals and families impacted by su***de loss.

Our financial work directly supports things like:

🛹 Skateboarding programs that create connection and community

🤍 Su***de bereavement support groups and survivor gatherings

🌱 Resources that help survivors feel less alone

🎒 Care packages for newly bereaved families

💙 Community events that bring people together in remembrance and hope

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, thoughtful, comfortable with non profit finances.You
don’t have to be a nonprofit finance expert to be interested. What matters most is a willingness
to contribute your skills and a belief in our mission.

Today we will be at the Together We are Enough festival. A music, mental health awareness, and community building festival brought to us by .eugene.oregon

Our first time at this event was 6 short months after Ben died. We were there to honor him, and Silas

Although our work is tethered to community through Ben. We have expanded our dedication outward through hundreds of conversations since then. Providing safe space for vulnerability in the midst of loudness, grief in the midst of joy, and the act of infiltrating our loved ones in to our lives moving forward.

This Sunday, September 20th The Ben Moody Foundation will be attending The AFSP’s Out of the Darkness Walk.

We walk on the Su***de Prevention Coalition of Lane County’s team to remember those who have lost their lives to su***de, and to build support programs for their surviving loved ones.

Come visit our table and say their name. Create a name tag in honor of your loved one. Wear it proudly as you walk for your own reasons.

We had such a fun holiday weekend celebrating skateboarding and the future of our community!

First stop was the 2nd annual Downtown Throwdown sponsored by YESS Youth Empowered Spreading Success watching everyone come and skate the ramps was so exciting! It really brightened up the neighborhood.

Then we headed to Blair Alley for the Battle at Blair Alley, another celebration of skate boarding and music. We were able to give away some fun prizes and meet new people.

The Ben Moody Foundation is honored to partner with the Center for Community Counseling to offer an 8-week Su***de Bereavement Support Group for individuals 17 and older who have lost a loved one to su***de.

Together, we’ll create a compassionate space to share, listen, reflect, and honor those we love while finding support from others walking a similar path.

Mondays, September 28 – November 16, 2026

We are moving outside for the summer.

We will be hosting monthly peer support park walks/sit for those bereaved by su***de. This is a space for anyone who has lost someone of any relationship to come and find connection, understanding, and hope in an otherwise extremely isolating experience.
