Hi friends!

LCC is considering closing the printing and graphics department. We have come to rely on their reliability, professionalism, attention to detail, and fast turnaround for all of our printing needs. It is also one of the last truly local printing shops in our area.

The board meeting is tonight, so please sign soon, and consider attending the board meeting too. There are some other cuts proposed as well. (Thank you Beth & the Chinook Wawa Program!)

Cranberry Buy!!
Eugene Area Gleaners is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We have no brick-and-mortar location, no paid staff, and no paid positions. Each and every person in this organization is a volunteer. All of the money we have in our account comes from donations and grants.A gleaner is someone who collects excess foods from a variety of sources in order to provide it to those in need.

I am an administrator for the group. The group is putting in a group buy on local cranberries, and we would like to invite the public the opportunity to order with us and take advantage of the group ordering discount price.

These cranberries are grown near here, in Bandon, OR on a family farm. The discounted rate is $1.50/lb. While there are cheaper options at grocery stores, those are grown out of state and possibly out of country. Our group puts an emphasis on supporting our local family farms as often as we can. They haven’t been sprayed in the last 80 days, however, if concerned, google how pest control is done in cranberry bogs.

How it works:
The cranberries are $1.50/lb (Remember they are locally grown). Please order in one pound increments. Payment options are PayPal or Venmo, (links are below). Orders must be in by Thursday, November 13,2025 at 12 noon. WE CAN NOT DELIVER. PLEASE ONLY ORDER IF YOU CAN GUARANTEE THAT YOU CAN PICK UP. There are NO refunds except for orders canceled in advance, by 12 noon on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

Some of our volunteers will drive down to pick up the cranberries on Friday, November 14th, 2025, and return to our pick up point here in Eugene, OR. Pick up for Orders is between 6 and 7 pm on Friday. Address for pick up will be in your confirmation email for your purchase.

It’s definitely fall, y’all! The mornings have been chilly and the fog has settled in for much of the morning. For my family that means soup/stew season! Many stores will end up donating their unsold pumpkins to organizations such as ours or to farmers to help feed their livestock. What are your favorite pumpkin recipes to make this time of year? I personally love to make pumpkin cookies. My daughter loves her pumpkin lattes. My grandmother slips chopped pumpkin into her chili recipe. Since it looks like the group will have an abundance of pumpkins in the next few weeks let’s post our recipes below to share with others.
P.S. if you aren’t a fan of pumpkin but have pets, pumpkin has a lot of great benefits for our two and four legged family members too!

Metric to Imperial Conversions **** UPDATED CHART ATTACHED
Please Read!!! The FLOUR and SUGAR measurements are not correct.
So it seems that even though I used a reputable source the 170 Grams for flour is too much. Please UPDATE to this new chart.
The Best measurement for FLOUR is anywhere between 120-135 grams for 1 cup of Flour. I would say to the average number of 125 grams / With SUGAR it should be about 200 Grams. I got 204 grams here in Florida.
It seems that weather does make a difference in the weight. I live in hot and humid Florida. I checked the flour weights on my scale at home on different types of flour. Using the Scoop and Level method, I got ~ 126grams to a cup. Using the Spoon and Level, I got 134 grams. So right there there was a difference ?!?
Checking other sources, those charts showed between between 120 (King Arthur) to 144 grams (Julia Childs) for flour
The rest of the measurements are mostly 'good' which explains why there are not a lot of charts out there.
