Prescribed fire assignments share the same hazards as suppression assignments, but firefighters are not compensated equally for the dangers they face.

In April, and in the absence of public meetings, Oregon-based groups hosted town halls in Portland, Bend and Eugene. Nearly 100 people gathered at Gratitude Brewing in Eugene to hear from local advocates and leaders, including Lane County Commissioner Laurie Trieger.

During that event, organizers with Oregon Wild, Cascadia Wildlands, and Firefighters United for Safety Ethics and Ecology outlined how people could prepare to comment again, anticipating another public comment period would open soon.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture missed its initial timeframe for publicly releasing its proposed repeal of the 2001 Roadless Rule. Eugene-based conservation groups and activists have spent months preparing for another public comment period that has yet to open.

Our firefighter advocacy trip to DC was a success! 🔥

Thanks to your support and the support of , we met with members of Congress to share the perspective of wildland firefighters and advocate for safe, ethical, and ecological fire management.

✉ We hand-delivered 80 copies of the Roadless Rule letter, signed by 120 wildland firefighters from across 21 states!
📝 We were invited to share our input on a bill by Congresswoman Dexter supporting wildland firefighter health and wellness.
📰 And, our advocacy successes have been highlighted by major news outlets across the country!
