On April 12, 2024, I got some news that would take anyone aback — especially a healthy 33-year-old like yours truly. After all the information had been relayed to me, I asked the formidable question:

“So, is there any way this ISN’T cancer?”

I didn’t get the response I was hoping for, so here we are, a couple of surgeries and some terrible-horrible-no-good-very-bad medical shenanigans later, preparing for three months of chemo starting this Wednesday morning at Riverbend Hospital.

And so, I come to you with a prayer in my heart, a newfound reverence and respect for the incredible humans that make up the innards of the American medical system, and a bushel of songs collected over the last several years.

My hope is that you might help me start this journey off in good spirits.

Bring yourself, bring your friends, bring a song!

Do I know what we’re going to be singing?

Not yet!

But do I have an enormous amount of trust in my craft, in the moment, in this community of musical humans, and a profound sense that Tuesday evening will be something special? You betcha.
