Northeast Modern Language Association - NeMLA The Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA) is a scholarly non-profit organization With F. M. Bonaventure.

The Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA) is a scholarly organization for professionals in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and other modern languages. Most members are professors and students at colleges and universities from New England, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and eastern Canada. The group was founded as the New York - Pennsylvania MLA in 1967 b

y William Wehmeyer of St. Bonaventure University and other MLA members interested in continuing scholarly discourse at annual conventions smaller than that hosted by the Modern Language Association. Burelbach as the editor of its NeMLA Newsletter (later Modern Language Studies), Wehmeyer organized conferences in April, 1968 and in April, 1969 at St. In 1969, the organization moved to wider regional membership, election of officers, formal affiliation with MLA, and adoption of its present name.

The Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards 90th anniversary ceremony was held last night at the Maltz Performing Arts Center in Cleveland, Ohio. This year's winners are Jonathan D. S. Schroeder, Janice N. Harrington, Danzy Senna, Tessa Hulls, and Yusef Komunyakaa. Many of their acceptance speeches drew attention to our nation's fraught historical moment and the importance of literature and of continuing the struggle for equality and against injustice. Past winners in attendance included the reclusive Paul Beatty among other literary luminaries. Events continue on Saturday, featuring poetry readings by Adrian Matijka and Ilya Kaminsky, and conversations between Danzy Senna & Deesha Philyaw and Tessa Hulls & Maxine Hong Kingston.

Saturday's AWBA events start at the Martin L. King, Jr. Branch of the Cleveland Public Library with an opening keynote and complimentary refreshments, followed by a series of rich conversations and readings featuring past AWBA winners and jurors—leading writers who have fundamentally shaped how we...
