This month we are proud to recognize the late Max, an English Springer Spaniel, and his owner, Chapter Core Member Kevin Gathers.

Max began flushing Pheasants for our chapter's youth hunts back in 2013. At a solid 65 pounds, Max was a true brush-busting machine, though he never met a mud puddle he didn't want to jump into. Whether on land or in the water, he enjoyed hunting and retrieving birds, and he was an excellent house dog as well.

Max made a significant impact on all he hunted with. One youth hunter he worked with in 2013 is now grown and has an English Springer Spaniel of his own.

Max passed away on 9/15/2025. Thank you Max, for all the effort and hard work you gave to the chapter's youth hunts over the years. We miss you. May you rest in peace.

April Dog of Month:

Meet Reverend - "Rev" (Owner / Handler Chapter Member #728 Ryan DiDomenico).

Rev is a well trained 2-year old German Shorthaired Pointer who came to us from Hi-Point Kennels in Alliance, Ohio. True to his breed, he's the perfect mix of energy, intelligence, and heart. Whether he's charging through the field or greeting you at the door, Rev brings a boisterous spirt and affectionate personality to everything he does.

Rev has already built an impressive hunting resume, pursuing wild game birds across Pennsylvania, New York and throughout New England. This fall he'll be adding North Dakota to his map as we gear up for another exciting adventure. He has also proudly participated in several organized youth and veteran hunts, showcasing not only his skill but his steady temperment and love for working alongside people.

When the hunt is over, Rev knows how to unwind. You'll usually find him stretched out on the couch or relaxing by the fireplace-proof that even the most driven dogs appreciate the quiet moments.

We couldn't be prouder of this incredible companion. Congrats Rev.

March 2026 Dog of the Month:

Hunter is a 6 1/2 year old, 52 pound male Springer Spaniel born to Gardner's AKC Mountain Trek Brandy and Moss's AKC Maverick, eagerly demonstrates the strong field champion qualities of his lineage. He actively participates in the chapters annual youth hunts, veteran hunts and weekly pheasant hunts, all with his owner and handler, Chapter member Dave Gardner in tow. His capabilities include direct guidance from hand gestures, adherence to whistle commands, flushing birds from thick cover and retrieving harvested game to hand.

During the off-season, Hunter stays active by swimming in the pond (especially when people are fishing), as well as chasing frogs, catching Frisbee, and enjoying long naps on his favorite day bed.
