As of today, Unit 6 as we know it will not operate for the upcoming season.
The conflict of lifeguards not being recognized as first responders is a national issue.
There are a few paths that the managers have explored to keep Unit 6 in operation. One of the options that has come highly recommended is approaching the issue from a federal standpoint and the "Lifeguards First" movement. This means contacting our PA Senators (Bob Casey and John Fetterman) and PA Representative (Mike Kelly). Once these individuals are made aware of this, it is a very simple process for them to recognize us as first responders in the state of PA.
Bringing this issue to their attention requires numbers. We are highly encouraging you to follow the guidance below to help continue the operation of Unit 6 on Presque Isle State Park.

Inspired by the heroic lifeguard characters in the upcoming action-drama series Rescue: HI-Surf, premiering on FOX Sunday, September 22, the network and USLA are supporting a campaign aimed at recognizing open-water lifeguards for what they clearly are: First Responders.
