Paws & Refresh PAWS & Refresh is a Girl Scout Gold Award project dedicated to preventing heat stroke in dogs.

🙋‍♀️ About Alexis
Alexis is a dedicated 11th grade student at Enterprise High School and a proud member of the Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama. With a passion for animals and a heart for service, she is currently pursuing the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award—an honor earned by fewer than 5% of Girl Scouts nationwide. For her Gold Award project, Alexis created PAWS & Refresh, a mission-driven init

iative aimed at preventing heat stroke in dogs by installing automatic water bowls and posting educational signs in local dog parks across Enterprise, Daleville, and Level Plains. She’s combining her love for pets with real-world problem-solving by:

Partnering with city leaders and veterinarians

Installing durable, self-filling water stations

Educating the community about the signs and dangers of heat stroke in dogs

Alexis’s vision is to make a lasting impact on the safety and wellbeing of pets in her community—while inspiring others to take action through leadership, compassion, and care.

Here’s how to stay cool and safe this season:
✅ Always carry fresh water on walks

✅ Use pet-safe cooling options like splash pads or automatic refill water bowls

Through her PAWS & Refresh project, Alexis combined her love for animals and passion for public service to help prevent heatstroke in dogs. Alexis and Troop 9048 earned their Girl Scout Bronze Award by serving the Wounded Warrior Retreat at Fort Novosel. 🇺🇸

🎉 Silver Award Achievement – July 2023 🩶

I’m so proud to share that my Girl Scout troop and I earned our Silver Award—the highest award a Cadette can achieve! 💪

For our project, we wanted to make a difference for kids and teens going through tough medical challenges. Together, we:

🧸 Collected toys and comfort items for hospitalized kids
📚 Donated books for hospital libraries and waiting rooms
💖 Made handmade cards and decorations to brighten pediatric areas
👟 Helped provide shoes and basic care items to those in need

This project taught us so much about compassion, teamwork, and how small acts can make a big impact. I'm grateful we were able to serve our community in this way!

Even at just 66°F, your dog could be at risk for heat stroke — and 1 in 7 dogs affected won’t survive.
This is especially dangerous for flat-nosed breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, and Boxers.

💧 Keep them cool:
✔️ Walk early or late
✔️ Provide shade & water
✔️ Skip the midday play
